If he’s working that much he should have gotten promoted (raise) sometime or another. If he’s finessing the schedule he still should have gotten a pay increase.

Some of the highest paying jobs don’t require much hours of “actual work hours”….do the work on the front-end(education), things get much easier on the back-end(mid to later professional career)
They prob put the operations manager/supervisor role in front of him to chase.
In those jobs it becomes a war of attrition. Whoever can last will get forced promoted.
