One thing we tend to overlook is how they pass down careers (in law, accounting, business etc). These people have been doing these jobs for hundreds of years. Europeans (pre WWI times when Royals families ruled) looked down on bankers and accountants as bean counters and as not a prestigious job. Jews worked those jobs in Europe and eventually in the United States. The book "House of Rothschild" goes into excruciating detail about the families rise from the judengasse of Hamburg Germany to one of the wealthiest families in the world.

Even though the Jews have faced discrimination in several countries and the Holocaust they were never barred from education and continued to pass down the skills they acquired in certain fields.

That why they are so dominant in certain fields and it seems like every Jewish family is made up of several doctors, lawyers, accountants etc. It's easier to get into those professional fields when you are surrounded by that in your family and you have a large support system to prepare you and give relevant information so you can be successful in that field.

"Just do like the Jews" sounds good to say but it is not exactly fair because the situation for ADOS folks has been so different here in America. Often times a high achieving ADOS person who wants to become a lawyer or doctor will be the only one in their family to work in that field and won't have an Uncle Morty to give them advice or hook them up with a job to get that person started in their field under someone they know is looking out for them. We often have to go into these not so friendly spaces as one of the few Blacks and even less ADOS folks.

With us, too often some of the places we're the deepest in are the ones people are desperate to escape.

Same thing happened in other fields from what I've been told. Business law in the early days was looked at so the least respectable field for a lawyer to enter, so Jewish lawyers got a foothold there and over time it became an incredibly lucrative field. And the early Jews who founded major Hollywood studios came out of cheap vaudeville shows, which were looked at as a lower, disrespectable form of entertainment, but they used their vaudeville experience to build those first studios, which they could do cause it was brand new and there were no gatekeepers yet, and pretty soon the movies they were making were the most profitable form of art. A lot of the other early Hollywood Jewish execs had been salesmen who came out of the garment industry (because the garment industry was highly distributed enough that young immigrants with skills could make a living there on their own without having to rely on a big corporation), and they parlayed the salesman skills they had developed selling clothing into selling movies.

But if you look at US history, they definitely had a ton of systemic discrimination. There's a lot of documentation on this. For example, colleges had policies to keep Jews out. They overcame it, but it definitely existed.

Abolition meant their profiteering from human misery would (gradually) come to an end. Not a penny was paid to those who were enslaved and brutalised.
The British government borrowed £20 million to compensate slave owners, which amounted to a massive 40 percent of the Treasury’s annual income or about 5 percent of British GDP. The loan was one of the largest in history.


We wanted to find out which financial institutions were involved in this loan, so I sent two Freedom of Information requests to the UK Treasury and the Bank of England about it. I received two responses, which I’ll detail later, but the names and details of those creditors and investors remain frustratingly out of sight.
