It's like I said in the thread for that video, when you talk about LA cats gangbanging IS NOT INDUSTRY shyt...theres 3rd generation Cs and Bs out here, nikkas whose grandfathers started the shyt back in the 70s, lost all their homies, and been to jail for it. What a lot of these OT Blood/Crips don't get is that there's a code to being a banger. Certain music you can't be listening to, certain hoods you're never supposed to be seen being cool with...for example you've never seen a Schoolboy Q feat. Nipsey song, because their hoods ain't cool.

I'm not a gang member but being from here and knowing how deep the C/B shyt is around here (countless lost lives, beatdowns, jackings, rules that even civilians have to play by) I get offended when I see people disrespecting the culture.

It's easy to stack 'fukk crabs' on a music video but would Young Thug throw that up rolling through the 40s, or walking past some Harlem 30s? I very much doubt it.

I understand/agree with what you're saying. Thug has to worry about Crips everywhere he goes though, not just in Cali. When I lived in Texas in the 90's we followed the Cali gang code as much as you possibly could. I'm sure other areas did too. It may not go back to the 70's but it went back to the mid 80's and being separated by only two states, Cali culture and the people spread to Texas. I completely get what you are saying about not listening to certain artist, not going to certain hoods, not affiliating with certain people, not wearing certain colors, not saying certain things, claiming the same colors but still being enemies because of the set you claim etc.

I say that so say there was/is some authentic bangin' going on outside of Cali. Not everyone was/is doing the modern version of it. I met a Blood from Alaska back in '91 and from what he was talking and the pictures he showed, they was official out there too. I just saw a gangland thing not to long ago on Alaska and they were showing how gangs from Cali migrated out there to sell coke. It answered some questions I had for years after meeting that Blood.

I think it's just the code has gotten more and more watered down over the years. I don't agree with the gang ish but sometimes I feel some type of way when I see rappers freely playing with this ish. We used to put our lives on the line when we were younger and you got these industry guys doing this b*stardized, fake bs and getting a pass for it. The Chris Brown stuff really gets me. That may sound ignorant but unless you were at the very least affiliated with it, then I don't think you could understand. On the flip side, even though it wasn't like that for us, I'm glad some things are like the way it is now. It's less dangerous. I like to see Blood and Crip rappers working together. So even though it's more fake now, not just in the industry but in the streets, it's not as bad as it used to be.

This reminds me of something. Back in the day they had this guy who lived in my apartment complex who was a real good running back. He would make the news almost ever week they played when they would show local high school highlights. I was cool with his brother. So the first time I go to his crib his brother showed me all these letters he had been sent from different colleges trying to recruit him. They had them up on the wall going around his room. I mean all kinds of colleges big names and no name schools.

So I had moved away from Richardson to Dallas and I was going to a different school. The next year one of the cats from that same neighborhood transferred to the same school I was at. So we talking and catching up and I asked him about the cat who played football. I'm think he's in college now playing for a team. Nope. He was like, "Ah man that fool dropped out. I mean just stories about fights and about how inmates got treated by other guards, I remember my dad having to physically defend himself during riots and fights in the jail I dont have any really great stories about rappers in there or anything to specific cause he left when i was six and we have had little contact since then (a few convos and visits) lol but i just remember him telling me how dangerous it was in there..people getting cut for phones and so many gangs.

Union City police and school officials have failed to protect African American students from a Latino gang, whose members killed a black youth in 2007 at a middle school and then shot at his friends last weekend in Hayward, according to attorneys who filed a class-action lawsuit Wednesday.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Oakland, accuses Union City police and officials with the New Haven Unified School District of doing nothing to prevent African American students from suffering "severe and pervasive racial harassment." Gang members were responsible for many of the incidents on campus or near schools, according to the suit filed by 10 African American former students of the school district.


In a statement Wednesday, Union City police and city officials said they have a "long-standing record of being responsive to supporting and defending the rights of all members of our diverse community." School officials declined to comment.

The most serious incident cited in the lawsuit happened in December 2007, when Vernon Eddins, 14, was shot and killed in front of Barnard-White Middle School on Whipple Road in Union City. No arrests have been made.

On Saturday, eight African American youths, one of whom was wearing a shirt with Eddins' picture on it, were shot at while at the Southland Mall in Hayward, said the plaintiffs' attorney, Pamela Price. No one was injured.

No arrests have been made, said Hayward police Sgt. Steve Brown.

Although it happened in Hayward, the weekend shooting is the result of a "situation that bubbled out of Union City," Price said at a news conference at the NAACP's office in Hayward.

Hayward police responded quickly to the incident, while their counterparts in Union City have not moved fast enough to stem violence against black youths by Latino gang members, Price said.

In their statement, Union City officials said, "Youth violence is an area-wide issue not respecting municipal boundaries."

Price said her clients are not gang members but are treated as such by Union City police. Officers often ask them, "What did you do to start this?" when "they did nothing," Price said. "To me, that's racial."

Eddins' mother, Angelique Paige, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit last year against police and the New Haven school district, accusing them of "failing to adequately discourage" racial violence. The suit is pending.

Paige cried at Wednesday's news conference as Price said gang members based in Union City's Decoto neighborhood had gloated about Eddins' slaying on a MySpace page.
