I remember someone on here said Thug draws from genetic memory for some of the melodies and that is a good observation.

Sometimes I hear remnants of the kpanlogo west African music standard in his music especially when it comes to rhythm ... but other times I'm taken back as it also has elements of the south African mbube style of music, esp with regards to the harmonic elements of his style.

He has awakened the inner African on a molecular level and it has expressed itself through his music
:blessed:

16:04 talks about his flows

What he says about the languages, voices and the flows being hard to grasp is true. Most people won't understand on the first few listens.

Draw Down is hard to comprehend on every level. He's hard to understand in terms of delivery anyway. He's using slang or phrases i've never heard of. The hook is long AF in terms of words it's hard to catch. And he's switching gears so you can't predict the next rhyme.

His hooks are cool...... But I get bored with his verses. I find my mind drifting whenever I listen to YT. He has a very creative style but he has some of the most generic content of any popular rapper I've heard in a while ...

The verses and the hooks aren't built any differently - it's just that the hooks are repeated. The hook for Draw Down has like 11 unique lines, the verse has 16... they ain't that different in structure. I'm sure some songs he must write/perform for 32 or 36 bars.. and take the catchiest 4 bars and make it into a hook.

Just getting over the voices, flows, languages is A LOT. He also has a unique turn of phrase. His similies are descriptive and silly. I agree the actual meaning behind the lyrics are generic but there's so many layers to pull off before you get there. The same is largely true for Michael Jackson and in that sense Young Thug is more in that vein as a performer. Ice Cube at his best was telling stories.. West Coast CNN..whether personal or otherwise. Therefore his voice has to be clear, powerful yet emotive. Jeff prime focus aint to tell stories. So he can do so much on a track. He can spend 4 minutes using his voice as a moving instrument, creating different languages and showing exuberant flashes of phrase. Young Thug music is as complicated as Pusha T. Not in terms of words read on paper but about 10 other musical elements.

Also a Fetty comparison is banal. I like Fetty but he has whole songs where he holds the same flow for the entire song... including the hook.... I like My Way and RGF Island but it's the same delivery and melody for the entire record.. you can sing or hum along to the entire song after one listen... or even half way through. You can't say that for any Young Thug song beyond a hook. Fetty - When he's actually rapping like on 679, it's cool nice lil flow but it's generic. Nothing like Thug.

But they both kinda sing, so let's compare them. It's not similar at all.
