They do.This might sound “ridiculous” to some who claim to have a grasp over artistic interpretation but this argument does highlight the issue with using creative expression such as song lyrics in a criminal court case. Unless they have the evidence to connect the words directly to specific crimes you can muddy up context around certain content
I brought this up in another thread where rappers were fighting to have limits put on the use of lyrics in court. It's one thing to recite lyrics where the rappers specifically names a time/date/victim/act/etc in the song...it's another to be like "he said 'i'm a thug' in the song" and just using a character attack as evidence.
