You need a bachelor's degree. I did not major in education in college, so I found a lateral entry state (NC) and got in through that. You have to be highly qualified through coursework or taking the praxis to be a lateral entry teacher

I'm doing the same thing, but in KY instead. I'm in Afghanistan now, but I am taking the PRAXIS a few weeks after I get back. Where do you teach in NC? I actually came very close to getting out a few years ago and trying to teach in Fayetteville. But teachers in Cumberland County were making less than managers at McDonald's and Cookout at the time, and I wasn't willing to take THAT MUCH of a pay cut.

I work for your local phone company. I get a decent salary and the work really isn't that hard. I can't complain. I would love to start my own business to have some income coming in on the side but I haven't decided what to do just yet.

Props bruv, I too don't know how people stick it out for that long!... Retail at that level was a stepping stone/ pocket money flex for most of us... it got real hellish at times when you tryna sell a bunch of reject trainers to several foreigners who didn't speak a word of english & expect you to know the international size conversion chart off by heart :dahell:

Supervisor. Got a team of employees below me. Best part of the job for me is figuring out where people making mistakes, then coming up with ways to correct them. Lots of looking at spreadsheets, reviewing data, coaching.

Using the job as a resume builder, work for a well known company have a lot of responsibility.

Job itself has a lot of bs to deal with and is pay is heavily performance based. Still has me interested because I haven't mastered it yet, but eventually I'll get bored. Have no intention of moving up to the next level above me or working in this field again. Just trying to eat off the experience and move on.

My job title is implemenation consultant. basically, I work with hospitals to implement the software they purchased from my company in their hospital. previously I worked with this same software except on the hospital side. so with this job, I have kinda reversed roles from what I previously did. best perk is I work at home and my boss is in another state.

How much does this pay?
We had some people come through our hospital and put in new software (HMS)
The guys had an engineering and IT background bit told me I could get in with training because I had the background in health care. Had me like :ohhh:

Salute you sir....

Yes, NC pays their teachers shyt. They're actually 48th in the country for teacher's salary. I teach in Charlotte and once I am fully certified I am bouncing to another state.

What subject are you looking to get certified in? Once you pass the praxis, take your scores, college transript, and the licensure center's application to the regional licensure center.

They then give you a "plan" and you have to take up to 24 credit hours in two years to satisfy the licensure requirements.

Once they give you your plan you are free to start applying and interviewing with schools.

Have you thought of Teach for America?

It's a shame how NC is treating their teachers. I read something the other day about NC no longer giving teachers extra pay for having a master's degree and possibly taking away tenure. I actually loved living in NC and wouldn't mind moving to the Raleigh-Durham area or Asheville, if it weren't for the extremely low teacher pay and some of the clowns that are currently in office there.

I am trying to teach social studies, as well as becoming certified to coach football. (I played three years of football in college). I know, I know....good luck finding a job :sadcam:

I'm in a program called Troops to Teachers, and they've been helping me along the way. I submit everything to them and they pretty much guide me through the whole process, but it doesn't lead to guaranteed employment. I just hope and pray that I can find a job, because I really want to be a positive influence on the kids. I'm taking a pretty big risk in leaving a career with great benefits and a salary of about $55,000 -$60,000 a year. But I honestly believe that this work is more important to society and that I was born to do this.
