Are blacks the most elitist and excluding race? :lupe:

Or is some level of elitism and exclusion characteristic to all races? :leostare:

I'm not sure. :patrice:

It seems like black people are the quickest to disown a black person or question a black person's "blackness" based on disagreements with who that person is or choices they've made. I've heard black people's "blackness" called into question for the following reasons:

  • Dating/marrying non-black people
  • Going to college
  • Enjoying school
  • Speaking proper English grammar
  • Attending primarily-white schools
  • Living in the suburbs
  • Living in states with no major city that is populated by a significant amount of blacks
  • Believing in Jesus
  • Not believing in religion
  • Being enlisted in any branch of the US military
  • Being a member of the Republican Party
  • Voting conservatively on entitlement, public benefit, and other social programs
  • Not supporting famous black people
  • Being critical of famous black people, especially President Obama, Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, and Floyd Mayweather
  • Not being about "that life"
  • Not hating white people
  • Listening to certain types of music--country, rock, classical
  • Wearing certain attire
  • Having a certain skin tone
  • Having a certain hair texture
  • Being homosexual
The list probably goes on...

Now, I think most of us can agree that, like most races, blacks are not a monolithic group. If we hold this to be true, why do we have such rigid and lengthy criteria for being black? :ld: Why do we question one another's ability to BE black? :ld: Why is important to exclude others from being black? :ld:

Thoughts, please.

yes. very much so.

even though most of that shyt on the list... people don't question anymore. People can do the different music, ways of speaking, athieism, and gay shyt without being not 'black' enough.

when someone is called out it's usually because they blatantly go against black shyt / people... for no reason ... every chance they get.

What you are talking about are mainly things that hood black people do. There are non hood black people.

Now if blacks aren't monolithic group as you said why would you the group us all together like we are a monolithic group.

Are you not yourself whilst posting on the coli, friend? :ld:

Oh, I'm not implying that people aren't themselves while posting. It's just there's a fair bit of difference between online conduct and offline conduct, so I thought it was easier to go around throwing ''cac'' here, where they aren't being confronted with what the person looks like. Someone saying to a guy that looks like Akon that he isn't black because (insert any of the listed above reasons) seemed to me perfectly feasible on the coli, but I wouldn't have thought it'd happen in real life.

As I've said, shows how little I know.

The Black Community
I don't exclude any blacks based on their socioeconomic condition. If you are part of the black diaspora I will do whatever I can to work with you in improving the status of our people. If you are a black neo-conservative, I will do whatever I can to deprogram that white supremacist crap that you run on. But they are all my brothers and sisters.

They don't call people cacs IRL.
But the idea of blacks making up standards to ourselves and claiming a person isn't really black unless they've made those standards is very true.

I don't think black people are particularly elitist, but I do think a lot of people in the black community (especially younger people) are prone to letting the loudest/most ignorant people dictate what's cool. But you could say that about most other groups too.

It's a fair question. :ehh:

This is what I suspect. But I'm open to hearing differently. I don't think everyone does it but I'm certain it happens. Just curious to what extent.
