I don't think black people are particularly elitist, but I do think a lot of people in the black community (especially younger people) are prone to letting the loudest/most ignorant people dictate what's cool. But you could say that about most other groups too.
Not really. I notice the elitist white crowd alienates the stupid redneck crowd. Being a hipster or starbucks drinker is a lot cooler than being a dumb nascar bud lite drinker. Whereas in the black american community, you clowns will totally buy into the stereotype, buy sugar and water I mean koolaid, and a bucket of chicken, just to flex the stereotype, I mean blackness.

yes. very much so.

even though most of that shyt on the list... people don't question anymore. People can do the different music, ways of speaking, athieism, and gay shyt without being not 'black' enough.

when someone is called out it's usually because they blatantly go against black shyt / people... for no reason ... every chance they get.

Care to share an example or two? :ehh:

I don't disagree. I just haven't heard someone say "you're not [non-black race] enough because of ______."

The Black American struggle is unlike any in RECENT history. Say what you want about Black Americans but one cannot (in evaluating a people) disregard the psychological impact of slavery on the peoples and also disregard the fact that segregation ended while most of our parents were already alive and STILL CLAIM to be objective. I'm not absolving black Americans, we still have some shyt we have to take care of. But viewing the current situation without considering the past is unfair :yeshrug:
So, are you suggesting that the black experience in America has caused blacks to be protective (and divisive) over what they may consider "black"?

This makes no sense to me, aren't there HBCU exclusive black colleges, who the fukk are filling them? :wtf:
I'm glad this doesn't make sense to you. However, I had friends in high school who suggested that I was trying to be white for wanting to go to college. And other friends who've suggested that school is not a black thing. Made me go :wtf:, too.

Now, I'm confused, again. :dwillhuh: Help me help you. My original post raises the question of why, when we agree that everyone is different, do we expect people to conform to a certain identity/behaviors?
Because your question says "we" when in actually its only relevant to hood nikkas.

You world it like its all black people when many of those traits you brought up only applies to hood nikkas.

Like you said black people are not monolithic, so why not say it like that to express that you practice what you preach.

Its a hood part of the culture that is an issue but your generalizing doesn't help at all.

Oh, I readily admit that not all black people have some rigid definition of what it means to be black. I think you aren't being totally honest by suggesting it's a hood phenomenon. For example, I've known black girls in college who've indicated that black men who date outside of their race are not being authentically black. So as to say if you aren't dating a black person you're rejecting a black person which is almost viewed as an act if treason/betrayal.

Well that's something that while its not a hood thing its still something that other races do in their own forms.

Even tho other races do make exceptions for white people compared to most black people who don't.
