It would seem to me that the axe has way more utility.

Wild animal comes and attacks you, you don’t have the same leverage and agility to do damage with an axe that you would with a knife

Compass, Boat, Phone and First aid Kit. you can create makeshift versions of the other essentials (knife, shelter, pot, bottle) . A phone with a bar signal could potentially save your life and if that doesn’t work I can use the boat and compass as a last resort
