There's only so much a company can do. If Apple couldn't muscle music labels to reduce prices for their music streaming service, what makes you think Google has the power to destroy an entire empire of record labels?

Google has all the data. In today's world, big data is way more powerful than money.

I love watching youtube but fukk outta here with that music label bullshyt :laff:

Music labels simply have too much power and influence. There is nothing YouTube/Google can do about it.

I won't say google can "destroy" a record label but they can give their artist a significant competitive advantage. Realize a person like Tyga gets searched for 450,000 times a month on google. Google could make it so there's a "related artists" portion on a page whenever someone searches for a particular artist and that related artist portion would only be for their own artists. Heck, don't even call it related artists, "if you like Tyga check out these similar artist on YouTube". And boom a relatively unknown just like that goes from no one seeing or knowing them to potentially 450,000 people checking out their music every month. Google probably wouldn't do this but Im just trying to give one example of what they could do.

I'll give you another example. Most blogs need to be ranked on google for specific keywords in order to get free organic traffic. There's alot of factors that go into a websites Page Rankings and Google could make it so they give blogs a certain boost in their domain authority/page ranking when they mention/write about youtube artists. Now every blog would be writing stories on Youtube artists because of the SEO. As a matter of fact, a part of a pages ranking authority is factored in by adding videos in the articles

At relatively no cost to google, they could easily put anyone to the eyes and ears of millions of people monthly.

Labels are the middle men of the music scene.

They are expendable especially as the music scene becomes digital.

Not hard to see what's on the way. Google/YouTube has already done the hard work. Millions of unknown artists post their music website yearly.
