CLIFFS

CONCEITED BATTLE

  • Was recorded for a URL pilot for BET. Included interviews about Yung Ill and Conceited’s upbringing, family life, and tour of their daily life.
  • Says him and Conceited were two of the most charismatic & marketable in battle rap at the time, so it made sense.
  • Ill & most of the interviewees said this battle would of shot him up in stardom.
  • Says it was vaulted due to contract obligations for the pilot.

CORTEZ BATTLE
  • Two days before the event, URL told Cortez they haven’t seen or talked to Ill in weeks.
  • Cortez & Ill became cliqued up after the Verb vs SB battle. Would be their go-to guy when they came to NY.
  • Cortez said he came out with a beard (said nobody was doing that at the time which makes no sense but fukk it) and could tell Ill was out of it. Said “This wasn’t the Ill that faced Rex”
  • Beasley tells Cortez Ill only has two rounds. He regrets that he didn’t cancel it.
  • Crowd heard Ill wasn’t prepared, so they stopped giving a fukk about the entire battle. Mic’s went out. People started using the battle as a break.
  • Says this battle pushed the “Cortez & Vault” narrative. Throws shots at Ill saying “he might have more vaulted battles than me”.
  • Mickey Factz says Ill had the bar of the night.. along the lines of shotguns and Ricky. Also said the crowd was moreso disappointed than mad.
  • Offlimitz said he had Ill 3-0 against Cortez. Says she could tell “he needed a hug that night”. Says he was only there “in the flesh”.
  • Yung Ill said he wrote the entire battle otw to Chicago, says he let battle rap take a backseat. Says he didn’t feel like he lost too bad (:mjlol:)
O-RED BATTLE
  • Says he wasn’t prepared for the battle, but felt he was a last minute type of rapper.
  • Halfway through the 2nd round, O-Red felt bad because he saw Ill was going through it. Surf said fukk that and keep his foot on Ill’s neck because “if it was the other way around, they’d do the same”.
  • Ill started beefing with the crowd. Was pissed off about his performance so he decided not to come out in the 3rd. O-Red was offered to go do his 3rd, but his approach was more “direct”.
  • Says it was the first battle that he saw someone completely unprepared. Says he thought Ill needed the bread and had no choice to battle.
Personal Issues
  • The rumors did not bother him. Hitman & Verb didn’t say shyt about him, so it didn’t matter what others say. If he did really talk about his issues, he’d incriminate himself.
  • That time period made him selective about who he dealt with. Says upcoming rappers are “insecure” about older rappers like him.
  • Hitman says battle rap community gave Ill an “unfair image” of being feminine, gay, and soft due to his appearance. Says he was a “Street nikka” and knew he was dealing with a lot.
“Pray For St. Louis”
  • Says they wanted to match him against Wavy because Ill “wanted to get back in the game and wanted to show love to an upcoming rapper”.
  • URL kept changing the date. He declined a KOTD battle due to the changes. He felt “ganked”. Battle was finally booked on his son’s baby shower. He no-showed deliberately.
  • Was angry about URL’s response to entire situation. Didn’t tolerate the disrespect.
BRIZZ BATTLE
  • Wanted to battle Chess before Brizz.
  • Wanted to just display his talents on that stage.
  • This was the first on camera battle that people said Ill clearly lost. Ill says it was “marketing” because it wasn’t in “real time”. Felt the “narrative” is controlled, just like every other platform.
  • Had a problem with it coming out late. He says fans wouldn’t appreciate his performance on playback. Says he won ( :mjlol::mjlol: ) started reciting some hard lines too.

Amazing documentary that I feel you should play if you got three hours to kill. Would appreciate any clarifications or additional info for those that were there from the jump.

I don’t think the Untold Truths get enough credit.
If he's smart enough to archive it, literally no one is gonna have this content in the future when these guys start vanishing for good :mjcry: if he keeps an archive he can have damn near an entire era and cash out, battle rap has too many fans in places that people would never expect, all it would take is the right presentation and respect people co-signing him (his case was messy even if he beat it) I could see caffeine establishing a battle rap history channel and that being a program
