very close...jacox elem. basically “across the street”
that whole area is fukked up
my boy was messing with a chic in that neighborhood and I was talking to her friend
used to be crazy driving thru there at nite
I had a run-in with some cats once right there at that roundabout by the Calvert Square Burger King. shyt didn’t go left which is a blessing, for the most part I was a legitimate working citizen while I was in The Beach. That situation though carload of cats pulled up on me at a stoplight, mistaken identity thing. Which, I'm not confused, scenario coulda went all kinda bad, but in the moment it was gonna be a bad day for more than just me is how I felt at the time...
I did have some people I was cool with out in Ingleside. That entire general area from Park Place to downtown/NSU all the way to Military Circle, thats a wild area. Lotta kids growing up in rough situations around there...
Who you telling breh, I went to Douglas Byrd and coming off of being a military brat overseas it was definitely a culture shock.
2Pac and Biggie died that school year too
Damn you got about a decade on me, and this is ironic because one of my sisters just turned 24 on the 31st, and we got in a conversation about how she's only 10 months younger than when BIG did, and how she was born two weeks before Pac died. Had an entire convo about it lol...
What was it like at school when they died? I was only 7 and don't have a real remembrance, obviously I knew the names but I was concerned with 7 year old shyt at the time lol. I was going to school in LA at the time and I remember it being particularly big in LA, but they also weren't big figures in my home---->my cousin was into Brandy, TLC, Cube, Coolio. I dont remember actually knowing a Pac song (or Biggie one) until maybe two or three years later...
Back on topic, I live in Raleigh now and still have relatives in Fayetteville, plus my kid's have family on their mom's side, so I get around there about once a month. Its funny to see the perception of the schools in Fayetteville now. When I was there my best friend at the time was a transfer from Byrd to Smith, and Byrd didn't have a reputation as bad. I remember like November '05 Smith and Westover being threatened to be shut down if they didn't pass like 60% of students or something like that...
Fast forward to today, I was told a few months ago Smith is seen as one of the best high schools in Fayetteville now and Byrd one of the worst....
