meh, this is too vague. he didn't say anything to expose her. I thought he would have at least said something to the degree of lauryn living in his neighborhood, but he didn't even say that. they just went to the same school and were friends.

he didn't say she was a valley girl or anything. he just said she was articulate(why wouldn't she be? SMH) and a prom queen and/or valedictorian or something. are we supposed to be surprised by any of this?

this is just a case of white people that prolly arent exposed to many black folks, being put in a position to answer questions that they don't fully grasp. and that's not a knock on him, because contrary to the thread title, dude wasn't trying to expose anybody. he just seems to think that lauryn yelling "NEWARK" and all that type stuff is a 360 from what she was in high school, but that more than likely isn't the case.



in braff's defense, he wasn't talking down about lauryn. he basically just answered the questions put forth.

he even said that he didn't believe the rumor that lauryn said "f*ck white people".

Spot on. Braff does come across as a racist in this clip for repeatedly emphasizing that she was articulate. He didn't seem to have any idea about her home life or where she was actually from.

Lol at the idea that LH's image wasn't "conscious" and "smart" for lack of a better word when the Fugees were popping on the 90s. Also, all of this was common knowledge at the time. She had a lead role in a major Hollywood movie.

I'm listening now and it doesn't sound like he's "exposing" anything, he's just saying what was real.

- Says she is/was extremely smart and articulate
- Says she is/was beautiful
- They were friends, had classes, went to auditions and rehearsed lines with her
- Was at his bat mitzvah
- Says that the rumor of her "hating white people" seems like a reach
- Says her fugees, "tough" persona was different from they person he knew
- Says he recently ran into her at an event and she acted like she didn't know him

Unless he actually throws some dirt on her name later on in this interview, TS is exaggerating. shyt is funny especially considering how she gets/got called a "fraud" for being credited as the genius behind the group when she wasn't really writing shyt, by her own people no less.

Its just the way hip hop was back in '96. Everyone dressed very urban and gritty, especially ny-area artists. people that werent really into hiphop, like a zach braff or a howard stern, would see the way they dress and how the videos were shot and they assume shes projecting a message or image that may not necessarily be true.

if she was out there dressed like brandy at the time or whatever he would have been more comfortable. but brandy wasnt in a hip hop group.

he's up there talkin about how they were such great friends n she was at his barmitzvah n shyt...yet he doesnt even know where she was living at.
