The 8-4 and fiery moats
I been meaning to cop and learn it, just haven't really had the chance. What I might do is download Sculptrix, which is free and made by the same people, just has it's limitations compared to Zbrush. Never really sculpted before, I always just did straight up modeling in Max. After I try it out for a bit in Sculptrix, I'll purchase Zbrush.

Some of the stuff you can do with it :ohlawd:

Never worked with ZBrush because it's not in my field of work but was always impressed by the work. Above all those of monsters with highly detailed skin.
Do y'all used bump/displacement maps or is manually done ?

You can use either way really. I usually do it manually and I use certain brushes depending on what I'm sculpting. You get a lil bit more control out of doing it manually.

Yeah maps being repetitive I can see why.
I may have some free time soon so I'll take a look at this and try to model some stuff for fun. Is it hard if one has already some knowledge of 3D modeling or softwares like Max ?

I thought that shyt was at first cause coming from a Maya background and I didn't have any prior knowledge of it, but once my showed us how to get around, shyt was super easy. There's a bunch of tools but really all you need is maybe 5-6 brushes and you're good. I'll post some of my notes I have and if you know a way I can post who tutorial vids, I got a bunch from Digital Tutors and other places.

One thing I forgot, having a wacom tablet is a must or any type of drawing tablet for using ZBrush. I tried using a mouse and keyboard and it sucks.

Hmm...I would say you wouldn't really need to master the program, but if you have a good understanding of the tools in the program that you use, you can get better pretty quickly, the more you use the program and look up tutorials and information, you'll gain knowledge in the program and your work will get faster and better.. With anything drawing or sculpting wise, if you have a decent knowledge in anatomy that helps a lot in creating humans, animals or other shyt.

My process I usually use is before I jump into ZBrush, I gather a lot references of whatever I'm gonna sculpt, make sure your pics are good quality and that they show a lot of detail and muscle structure. I also make sure I have a lot of anatomy references so I can see how muscles lay on top of each other and where they sit in the body. I make a big ass document in photoshop showing different views of the body like this, this is a reference sheet I made for a project I'm working on now

I used to model my base mesh in a 3D program like Maya or 3DS Max, but my professors told me you gotta start learning how to make my base stuff in ZBrush then sculpt and work in ZBrush.

Once I get that ready, I go into ZBrush and make sure see thru is on so I can see my reference in photoshop as well. There's a program that's free called "Always on Top" that's a good way to keep your reference on screen when you sculpt. I just start sculpting and working. I posted something I've been working on for a few days and I'll keep posting updates. If you need any tuts for ZBrush, I got a ton of shyt, that I collected from a bunch of places.

Yep def invest in a wacom tablet if you're gonna be sculpting. I use one for Photoshop along with other things and couldn't think of doing anything else that precise with just a mouse.
