I understand your review of the album and your point, but as a piece of music I dont see how you could possibly give this a 4.5 even if you think the album is intentionally scattered and disoriented to reflect his own personal problems and tribulations as a sinner, that in it self doesnt have artistic merit, and it certainly doesnt make the album sound any better :yeshrug:. Believe me, I truly do understand where you are coming from with this review and I actually agree with certain aspects but I feel like you are giving him too many points for having a vision and concept to his album. He doesnt show up on any of his verses, in fact you could argue he brings them down. Kanye himself is the reason this album isnt MBDTF pt 2. You are welcome to prove me wrong but the only memorable verses from him on this jawn are purely for fukkery purposes. In an era where so many albums are nothing but a collection of singles with no cohesion I see why so many bloggers tend to give stuff like this extra points for approaching his craft with a vision but at the end of the day the music is what matters for a nikka like me.

I want to get yall opinion on something though. Where do you think Kanye wanted to this album to be consumed at? The radio? Club? In the whip? Through headphones?

IMO Ye's albums are good for all of those places you stated that's what gives them their longevity. This album he stated he meant for it to bring joy and I get that feeling on a lot of tracks on here. I'd say Highligts would be the first single.

Kanye has never been a "lyricist" in the aspect that I grade him on the same scale I would grade Nas, Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, or Mos Def. when I listen to artists like Kanye West I'm looking for a certain feeling, I'm listening for a connection, how do I as a listener find common ground with the artists intentions, and if I do, is the overall message worthwhile? It's the main problem I had with Yeezus, there was no connection for me. It was meant to be high concept Pop Art, but all I felt was nothing more than a frustrating desire to be finished with the experience. Here, on TLOP, what he is attempting to do with the vision and concept are, in my opinion, much better pulled off. The lyrics and production CLICK for me. It's not an album where I would compare guest verses to Kanye's verses in an attempt to see "who spit better" because this album isn't meant to be that type of album. Kanye, like on his best albums Late Registration, 808's, and MBDTF, uses the guests vocals as instruments. To enhance the album's richness and to make the experience immersive. There is no better example of this than Ultra Light Beam, where he blends Kelly Price, Chance The Rapper, his own auto-tuned vocals, Dream, the church choir, and Kirk Franklin into something that for me, was extremely effective and powerful. That song as an intro, set the entire goal of the album into focus for me. I am not a Christian, I believe the religion to be amongst the most damaging weapons used against the African American psyche, and yet I have seen and witnessed brothers and sisters who truly have turned their lives around because Christianity as a concept gave them a basis of faith.
It's very hard to put all of that feeling and emotion into an album. Someone like Nas would attempt it lyrically, parsing his lyrics into a dense layer of entendre that convenes history, perception, and personal anecdote into a package that is meant to be understood through the concept of language. Someone like Kanye however, is going to attempt it more sonically. His lyrics, beginning with 808's have been more stripped, resolute, and steeped in audacity. His voice has again, become an instrument. I can respect Kanye's methods of expression and most importantly I can FEEL a sense of, what I can only assume is what he is attempting to convey. That's what I based my score on, is the execution good enough that the finished product connected with me. I feel as if the album's themes are important, and I feel as if the album did its job in making me GRASP that importance

I only ask because this is the album only album from him where there isnt that clear track that will hold the radio down. Obviously Kanye is a popular guy so I could be wrong

Kanye has always been a master at assembling talent and making the best out of them. My only problem with this line of thinking is that Kanye isnt simply the director. He shoots his own movies and stars in them so I dont feel like its that out of the question to really looking into his 'acting abilities' if you will. Its the equivalent of Spike lee shooting a movie, inserting himself as the main star then constantly getting outshined by the same actors he decided to employ. This wasnt the case on MBDTF or any of his previous album. A 4.5 means this is one of the best albums ever made.
I can enjoy these songs but they didnt quite hit me on that level where I could say it was THAT good. I'd give it a 3/5

We'll see Yeezus didn't have any songs on the radio and he's got two platinum singles (Bound 2 & Black Skinhead) and two gold singles (New Slaves & Blood on the Leaves).

Appreciate you breh. I knew this album was going to be divisive, but i respect all non troll opinions.
