You can’t tho Markelle and Anthony Bennett was drafted #1 and both never ever came close to showing franchise potential, possible MVP winners, etc

Zion definitely showed all that in BOTH years he’s played at just 19&20 years old,he’s not a bust at all.

Still a bust however unless he actually plays and produces. Just will be a possible career cut short due to either injury or off the court issues unless he becomes more durable.

I feel like with Luka he’s just being a spoiled brat and generally doesn’t see anything wrong with his weight.

Zion on the other hand is probably going through Depression. He never wanted to leave Duke after one year, he never wanted to play in N.O and he’s way too sensitive to deal with this.
This is exactly what it is with Zion. This is not normal behavior, especially for an athlete in his early 20s. Something more serious is going on with him and brehs are laughing like he just can't stop eating,.

At Duke he was trim and muscle bound...AND HAPPY. Seeing him cry that hard after the Michigan state loss told me everything I needed to know about him wanting to leave Duke. Actually it was the same with Kyrie. Kyrie literally said he did not want to leave. Coach K made him. In fact there are very few lottery picks coach k didn't force to leave to get their bread.

Exactly. He said it himself he didn’t want to go

“If you're in a situation like mine, where you're one and done, I'm just trying to make the most of what I got. I love Duke, and honestly, I don't want to leave. If I didn't have as much at stake, I probably would stay for another year”

I don’t understand why some of these “one and done” players who want to stay in college won’t just stay. If they’re good enough, they’ll still be picked high. Tim Duncan would’ve been the #1 pick in ‘96 had he left, but he stayed for his senior year and was STILL the #1 pick in ‘97. I guess if it were like today’s climate, Tracy McGrady and Tim Thomas probably would’ve been the top two picks.

Because they can't foresee a possible career threatening injury during their time in college, maybe?

Are you going to pretend that this is not a part of the equation on deciding to leave even if they wanted to stay?

That was before one and done era. Too much at stake with injuries. Zion, Kyrie and Marvin Bagley all had injuries at Duke and missed significant time. Kyrie literally missed the entire conference and conference tournament. Also coaches differ on their philosophies of getting players to leave.

Coach K for example pushes them out the door, even if they don't want to go, and especially if they are one and done OR coach K has made an agreement with the parents that he will only stay 1 year.

Roy Williams was the opposite of this. He routinely got his lottery picks to return for a second year during the one and done era.

Of course I know this, but it was never an issue in the past. A LOT of these freshmen who come in the league clearly aren't ready. I put more blame on the GMs who focus more on "youth and upside" even though the player who's ONLY 2 years older is better.

I understand why, along with the NBA no longer allowing players to get drafted out of high school. I just hate how they focus more on upside than actual skill.

If you are dominant in a small handful of games you can still be a bust. He’s basically a bust until he proves to be durable. They didn’t draft this dude #1 to play 30 games a season and develop weight issues.

Pelicans twitter been super pissy about the weight jokes, but, people are restless and Z put himself in this position not taking his weight seriously

I already know we're preparing him for his career with the Knicks, but, son done miss 83 games in his career already

Can we atleast get a full year outta him before he leaves? :to:

I wouldn't be shocked. we all saw that mountain dew commercials with zach lavine.

on top of that, there's a reason that this dude hasn't been seen except maybe once this entire season. I don't even think he sits on the bench with the team. hell, maybe he cannot fit into the seats anymore :flabbynsick:

He's been to like 5 games this year, atleast

He still looks big :mjcry: like his rookie year BEFORE the bubble big

Because everybody in their camp, including their college coach apparently, is constantly reminding them of what they have at stake. These are still 18 year old kids. The average 18 year old feels overwhelmed trying to pick a major, these guys are having to make decisions with multi million dollar implications so it’s to be expected they’d lean heavily on their support systems to help make these decisions.

And while I agree that their draft position would likely remain the same if they play to their abilities, a lot can happen in a year (both on and off the court) that could affect things. When you, and the bulk of your camp grew up poor there’s a general desire to secure the life changing bag.
