5-6 years ago we met up for a work lunch (he's in his mid-60s), and he told me his biggest regret in his old age is not having kids, not having a son/legacy. That he was too self-centered to care in his youth living a fast wild life but the remorse had kicked-in in his late 50s/early 60s.

I don't have kids yet and i'm just past my mid-30s, but i always have that story/perspective in the back of mind. Don't run from the responsibility then wish you could walk it back once life forces you to slow down. Tho that's much easier to say when you're not in that person's shoes.

I feel you tho. That’s partly why I’m not married yet.

I’d only get married to have kids, otherwise I don’t care for it. I have a coworker who is married but he and his wife don’t want kids.. just want to live their best hakuna matata life together.

I sorta get that but my idea of hakuna matata is fukkin hoes commitment-free and knowing that when I do become emotionally attached to one I can always have a clean break off without legal ramifications or losing half my shyt.

I do that in Dubai right now. The only thing that would drive me to give that up is a desire for kids and a family. Everyone is different tho, and I wouldn’t just have that with any woman.

I had two kids before I was 20. I was making around 70K by 25. I was thinking how much I'd be balling out if I didn't have kids and how different my life would be. But in the long run I'd say it was totally worth it and the joy I get from seeing who they've become as adults is indescribable. Plus I still have enough money to travel the world and live it up to a decent degree. The question I always had was would I do it again now that I'm 41 and if I'd be willing to be with a woman who wanted kids or had younger kids on her own. What fukked me up was going raw early on in sex life. I couldn't bust with condoms the first few times and then me and my girl ended up in a park without any on me. So went raw and finally was able to bust. Used the pullout method after that. From there it was hard to go back to condoms. I eventually learned while not as good as raw, it can still feel amazing with the right brand of condoms. Even though there are still the times where I get drunk and want to go raw at times. That eventually made me a lot more picky in who I fukk with just in case I do slip up.

Well said. Would i be overseas right now acting a fool if i had kids in my 20s, let alone my teens? Maybe not, but then I look at the flip side that guys like you or someone like LeBron (essentially my age bracket) got to get all this father/son (or daughter) stuff out the way before you even reached 40, and experienced it while you're still strong/in your youth. Part of me is envious, bc if i were to have kids now i'd be in my mid-50s by the time they graduate high school.

I do stay in shape and look young for my age but the idea of tryna play ball with my 10 year-old and 10 minutes in my back or knees are about to give out

Yeah honestly it feels like at some point you need to live for something more than yoursel otherwise it just gets old at some point. You're just accumulating for the sake of accumulating and everything you've done dies with you. It must be sobering.
