If you see the protection for the enclosure it's literally shin high

And the video you see is edited, they took out the disturbing bits

Tranquillisers would not have worked fast enough, either

Ehhhh they did what they had to do you never know what the gorilla would've done even though it's obvious that the gorilla isn't stupid and was protecting the kid.

Maybe mom and dad should have been watching their child like they were supose do and not endanger his life with negligence

This reminds me of the tort law lectures concerning contributary negligence and assumption of risk. The parents will sue cuz the railing was spaced far enough for 1 toddler per 38 years to squeeze thru the bars. The zoo's defense will be what Aint That Something posted above. No matter who pays whom, Harambe's life is spent (and a small child got dragged).

Surely there are instant tranquillisers though?

On a 400lb animal, the instant tranquilizer just numbs his flank for the first 271 seconds. Then he starts to feel drowsy. Then he perks right the fukk BACK UP AGAIN.
