You're conflating letting a young child learning how to operate a firearm and letting a young child hold, carry and own a firearm. They're not the same.
If more kids knew how to safely operate guns we'd have less shootings and accidental discharges. The immaturity and fear most Americans regarding firearms is due to their ignorance and inexperience.
It's no coincidence most of the biggest anti-gun people don't know a damn thing about guns in the first place.
