They're checks are already being garnished. That's how the support gets paid for the most part. He wouldn't be in contempt if he was paying the support. And the delinquent balance does get reported to credit agencies. The only way you will go to jail or lose your license is if you don't pay at all. For a long time. Drivers license can get suspended after few months if your strict. But jail time means u never pay. Or went years without paying. I'm sure some states are more strict.

But no, I do not in any way shape or form that "most couples would just work it out amongst themselves" that's not reality at all. As usual it comes down to 2 people, there's what party a wants/expects and what party b wants/expects.

we do have options, yet men still end up on child support and vilifying their childs mother because they refused to take advantage of those first world options.

I think the government should offer a reversible vasectomy to poor people that can be reversed once they've demonstrated that they're financially stable enough to have children.
