Behind B.I.G. and Mase, French Montana is Diddy's most successful rap artist.

yes you can compare sales.

one of the main reasons why sales are down dramatically is because the quality of mainstream music generally sucks and the bar continues to be lowered everyday. they stress this download chit as the sole culprit because the industry doesnt want to admit that they f*cked up and as someone on this site put it "betrayed the trust of the consumer".

french wouldnt have even had a record deal in the '90s/early 2000s.

not to mention that some of the artists mentioned were indeed doing numbers with napster/kazaa/audio galaxy, etc around.

In terms of presence, I would think French Montana is doing more. Think about how many Pandora channels his music appears on, think about this online video views, think about the airplay his music gets at clubs and on the radio, think about how many people want him for collabs, think about how long he stays on televised video countdowns like 106 & Park, how many tours he jumps on. He's not selling CDs like Diddy's previous rappers, but he is doing more in terms of the population who is listening to his music and the people who are watching his music videos. I'm from Cleveland so the city dikk-rides MGK, but French does seem to be doing more, than those artists did. He probably won't drop a platinum album anytime soon, but he is pretty popular.

dog, you mostly just listed a bunch of political nods, which is basically all mainstream rap is based around now. and they wonder why nobody is buying records.

lol @ how many tours he jumps on. a better question is how many tickets can HIS NAME sell?

also, you have to take into effect the lack of competition. rappers like craig mack, black rob & g-dep would be seen as rap gladiators in 2014. youre from cleveland talking about MGK? well when those other bad boy artists were out, the cleveland artists they had to compete with were bone thugs-n-harmony. thats a very very big dropoff, dont you think?

MC BRAINS >>>>>>>> MGK

cant find the number, it wasnt much for its era. the thread is phrased wrong, French is doing it pretty big right now i dont think anyone would deny hes the most visable act in NY

is he a bigger star in his era than Rob and Dep? sure, he knows how to network and keeps himself in the loop. Rob was a reclusive weirdo who wouldnt do press

but Excuse My French cant be seen as a win for Bad Boy. FM is winning on the whole but his album didnt
Star Power matters. French is selling shows and doing appearances and cameos. That matters in 2014 and is more of a factor of how the industry works than back in 98.

Stop moving the goalposts.

under every metric, French is popping WAY more.

I disagree. Black Rob went Platinum and saved Bad Boy Records after the shiny suit era faded. Whoa has got to be Bad Boys biggest non Puff BIG Mase song.

except for forgetting flava in ya ear i agree, black rob was pretty big when whoa dropped
