I voted for Rae's album because that's a Top 5 album (including all genres) for me. But, man, this is a dope list of amazingly produced albums, especially that Livin' Proof and Liquid Swords

Yh Livin' Proof is sick. Dont like the Guru or Jaz-o produced tracks though.

I like the production on the second half of Liquid Swords especially. Cold World and I gotcha Back

Decided to give it to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... after a lot of thinking

Originally gave it to Liquid Swords (my favorite album) but in reality OB4CL is more interesting and unique when it comes to production

I swore that vocal sample on "Ice Water" was a male for years until I watched the recent Power 106 Discover the Samples video. That shyt blew my fukkin mind :mindblown:

Yh the production on the purple tape is definitely not like other albums. Cinematic production, instruments playing during skits, orchestral choice of instruments. I think my reason for not putting it in my top for 1995 is because, despite there being certain beats that i think are among rza's best, the melodies/loops on 2 or 3 tracks are kinda off-putting. But there not enough for me to dislike the album or even those songs, and i cant deny how well put together the album's production is, especially for 1995. I actually believe RZA is kind of a genius for his work in this era, despite his style taking a while to grow on me. Plus that singer Blue Raspberry also added to the album. Heaven & Hell probably my favourite beat on there

I just put Ice water on fruity loops and pitched it up and yh, it sounds more like a woman's voice. It is smart, almost the opposite of pitching up a man's voice where they start to sound like a woman.

Dogg Food rather easily

Fukk RZA production btw, most overrated

About RZA's production, what was it about it that you dont really like. Am just asking cos i like his beats alot now, but not as much when i first heard it. Mostly cos some beats he would have a sick drum pattern that i have to bop my head to, but then the sample/loop is some weird piano melody that sounds almost laughable. I think 7th Chamber Part 1 and M.E.T.H.O.D Man are the best examples.

But i just grew to like them i guess. But some of his other beats are just straight masterpieces imo which probably helped.

Infamous is the obvious choice, no matter how you slice it. Go listen to it in 2017 and listen how sharp these beats ( & lyrics) still are.

Having said that, 95 was such an :ohlawd: year for hip hop. Best year ever. 3 of my top 5 albums from that year ( Infamous, Soul Food & MATW )

He's had great, good, mediocre, bland and trash beats overall, but compared to other big name producers he just can't compete in terms of consistency. Agreed with the samples, really like "Could It Be All So Simple" but hell that sample sounds so trashy. Great idea, questionable execution. Plus much of his shyt hasn't aged well for me

Illmatic got best produced album for 1994 ? :mjlol::russ:

Anyway...

Dogg Food
E.1999
Safe + Sound

In order

Illmatic being dubbed the 'greatest hip hop album ever' has likely resulted in everyone, young and old atleast hearing it.

Im assuming some posters who arent even into listening to 90s hip hop have atleast heard it.

I agree with the consistency arguement. Didnt listen to his bobby digital era production, but did here like a couple of songs and they sounded awful. I respect his musical vision overall though, especially in the early years. If anything, his vision is probably his greatest attribute. But i understand what you're saying.

Gonna have to think about my choice... maybe the GOAT year in hip-hop

Having said that, 95 was such an :ohlawd: year for hip hop. Best year ever. 3 of my top 5 albums from that year ( Infamous, Soul Food & MATW )

damn 95 might be the goat hip hop year

Yeah definitely agree. Probably the first year (or one of) where an album from each region in america got some shine.

GOAT award show too minus all the tension
