'95 was a very good year in hip hop..and the groundbreaking albums released in '93 and '94 were still in heavy rotation.

95 was a tough year. A lot of classic shyt came out. Return To The 36 Chambers is up there as 1 of the best. RZA was working hard, man.

That album's production actually surprised me. I thought i wernt gonna like it cos of ODB's style, but rza did come through with some good sounding beats that worked.

And yh, Rza must have not even gone out at all between late 1994-95. Probably only left his basement for the source awards and video shoots and thats it

Voted Livin Proof. Premo carried these dudes (no disrespect) to a classic. Every track ranged from very good to classic. I would have liked to see All We Got Iz Us on there. Agallah killed that shyt. One of darkest, hardest, grimiest albums ever.

About RZA's production, what was it about it that you dont really like. Am just asking cos i like his beats alot now, but not as much when i first heard it. Mostly cos some beats he would have a sick drum pattern that i have to bop my head to, but then the sample/loop is some weird piano melody that sounds almost laughable. I think 7th Chamber Part 1 and M.E.T.H.O.D Man are the best examples.

But i just grew to like them i guess. But some of his other beats are just straight masterpieces imo which probably helped.

I think that was definitely a problem on 36 chambers but as his production equipment got better his beats became richer and fuller. Like compare the 36 chambers Can It Be All So Simple to the remix from OB4CL. shyt is night and day.

Return To The 36 Chambers is my favorite Wu solo album.

RZA provided Ol' Dirty b*stard w/ tailored made beats for him. Those beats matched ODB's abstract style to the core.

I know, thats one of the aspects of 36 Chambers that you cant help but appreciate. Its low budget sound. It shows but it does blend well with the album's tone and lyrics. The equipment isnt really the problem for me, i like the dusty sound. It was more the melodies he played on his keyboard that i couldnt get into.

But what you're saying is right, his sound got better, and of higher quality in the subsequent albums. I have to confess, i prefer the 36 chambers Can it be all so simple to the one on Only Built.... I think the keyboard melody may be the reason, plus it has a more mellow feel. The sample is alright on both of them. But the double-kick drum and the baseline sound much better on the OB4CL track

Thats exactly what im saying about the rza. Even if i cant get into a few of his beats, i respect the vision. For his clan member's debuts, he creates something that fits that member's style. Obviously producers other than rza also deserve credit for doing the same, but too me, his talent was displayed when he produced all those wu solo albums in the mid 90s. A corny comparison, but its like a parent with multiple kids, who can create something that uniquely satisfies each one of their kids' personalities.

Yup. RZA was a genius.
