Wait what, now this has my full attention :ohhh:

It's much needed.

I love Stakes Is High A LOT, but away from that, when they didn't work with Paul, I honestly just didn't care.

He brings a level of vision and direction that they were never able to pull off without him.

Facts

Prince Paul is a producer’s producer :blessed:

Definitely is.

Paul started working on Stakes Is High, but ended up bailing early on, so they just did it without him.

I still love that album, and run it back all the time. But that was the last time I actually f*cked with a De La project.

Paul doesn't get mentioned enough as one of the GOAT producers. He's always been in my top 5. The catalog is crazy and spans so many eras and styles. He's always been more leftfield than guys like Premo and Pete, and hasn't really been a go to for hire producer working with the biggest names since the early 90s, so he doesn't have them joints with Nas, Hov, Big etc that people go back to. But in terms of crafting a project from beginning to end, very little are better.

And not just the Stetasonic, De La and Gravediggaz work. But his solo discography is very underrated too. Plus Handsome Boy Modeling. Even that Paul Barman EP had fire beats.

He also brings fun and charisma to the music. Maybe it's me, but I always associated De La with being a more fun group. After Paul left, those albums were pretty dark and didn't really feel like De La to me.

The albums felt dark after that because when "Buhloone Mindstate" came out the label threatened to drop them because rap was changing and they were deemed too "weird".

"Stakes Is High" is not just an album title, if that sh*t didn't land their careers would've been over. When you have that much riding on something it's hard to sound fun and happy. Pos was actually going to see a psychiatrist back then.

Yup

Same here; I can’t wait to see what the new album sounds like

De La WITH Paul is a top 5 group for me, that trilogy is a top 3 album run (only have Cube and Ghost higher).

De La without Paul...I really respect but is just a dope group, I never really got into the Paul-less albums (including Stakes is High) that much.

Woo woo wooooahhhh now.

I fukks with Prince Paul heavy

But Stakes is High is a stone cold CLASSIC
