Awesome Wells
The Bobby Womack of Crack
I got a lot of heat for saying this in an old thread about that album but for as much as I liked it, they sorely missed Prince Pauls vibe. They came across as hectoring grumps and complainers instead of just making good music to counteract the bullshyt going on at the time.
Word?
That's wild. I think for most of us diehard fans back then, that's how it was. I was still a kid, but I could definitely tell the difference in the whole vibe. They were only 7 years into their career and were coming off like angry old dudes. Because I was so into the group, I didn't like that.
I was literally a kid saying, "I love the album, but they're complaining about other people rather than just doing what THEY do!" I think a lot of their fans got turned off by that too. We're not alone, bro, lol.
