Best case scenario is that the new Program Director brings Star in or takes Ebro off the morning slot and lets Cipha & Rosenberg do their thing...when it was just Cipha and Rosenberg the morning show was actually tolerable...they both have good chemistry...Ebro bringing in K. Foxx and trying to be all up in the spotlight messed up that whole flow they had going on

Unless they gave Star 2-3 million a year or even a cool $1million a year, it would never happen. Star prolly wont comeback and he made it clear that he wasn't on that Star & Bucwild shyt anymore (he is both characters after all) and wants to be able to do his show unedited, uncensored and play the music he wants to play. I just cant see him willingly play a track like YG's "My N!gga." And after the Aaliyah mess and him leaving the station, Star felt some type of way about management.

Also, the money just isnt there to bring Star back. Emmis communications, the parent company, sold off a few stations a while back and ad revenue for radio has been down, just like the publishing industry, unless you want low level sponsors.

Star could come back for the right $$ but he would need a new "crew" like he once had and Howard Stern has and would have to treat the show like it is its own thing. No lovely dovey shyt with Mr. Cee/Angie/Flex, just a show. Still, he'd have to bring in a new audience as a 50 year old man and I'm not certain he can keep up with the ratchet crowd enough to talk about ratchet topics all day. Advertisers wouldnt go for that shyt and the ratchet crowd only spends money on Jays, Dutch Masters, Trues, iPhones (with cracked screens), haze/sour diesel and Enfamil.

dude was making the pd of hot 97.
appear to be the mayoral campaign of detroit's Kwame killpatrick, or marion barry at a crack den hotel.

:whoa: Spanish stations been in NYC for a minute, prob longer than Hot 97

yeah, I know but La Mega and these other stations started making some real ratings noise during the reggaeton era, which was ridiculously popular and those stations switched their formats to accommodate. Before, it was heavy merengue/bachata/salsa. Then they (especially La Mega) tweaked their morning shows and spoke in Spanglish because a lot of Puerto Rican kids (and some Dominicans) don't read/write/speak Spanish as well as their parents because theyre Americanized as fukk and listen to alot of rap/R&B.

Star has a huge ego and they'd have to pay his ass and basically beg him to come back and let him do whatever he wanted. It would seem odd to hear him on the radio not cursing (like he does on Shot97) just like it was odd to hear Howard Stern and his crew curing on XM/Sirius.

and he isnt caving to corporate pressure to tone shyt down. This Shot97 thing is his and once he gets a solid crew around him (more than fukkin DJ Aliaz) and get some revenue in, it can really turn into something. But right now, its janky as fukk and not befitting of a 50 year old dude with his history.

Hot 97 (an even 105 for that matter) will NEVER be number 1 in the overall ratings (12 years old plus demo) again because it's just too many factors. 1 being how the ratings system changed back in '06, when it switched to PPM meters. 2 not everyone has access to PPM meters so it's bias off jump. 3 truth be told, in 2014 Hip Hop is not the most popular form of music anymore (well in NYC at least). Back in the 90's and early 00's, Hot 97 use to be number 1 overall. And it just so happen Hip Hop was at its height popularity wise. Not anymore. A lot of people are listening to strictly R&B, Spanish, and Pop stations out here. What really helped 105 was they switched their format to cater to the black female demographic by playing mostly R&B during the day. Women are tuned in more. Plus the popularity of the Breakfast Club helped. In order for Hot 97 to be number 1 overall again, they and 105 would have to merge into one Hip Hop station. Just like how Kiss FM merged into WBLS. When the rating system changed Kiss and BLS could never really grow in the ratings because they were cancelling each other out by playing the same music (old school R&B). Once they merged the 2, BLS ratings skyrocket to number 2 overall. It's the same thing with Hot and Power. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up the same way

As far as syndication, Emmis Communications (Hot 97's parent company) only owns two Hip Hop stations: Hot 97 and Power 106 in LA. You can include WBLS to that list now too. They don't have a big base like Clear Channel so it's not much they can do with syndication. Idk, I just think the personalities they have on Hot 97 currently just doesn't resonate with the audience like back in the day. Morning show wise, Rosenberg is a white boy who people don't take serious. Ciph isn't a real competitive dude like that. He even admitted it recently on Combat Jack. And in the morning drive you need someone competitive and he's just not that dude. Ebro to me is more interested in the fame and being seen. And as a PD, that could be detrimental to your brand. I mean Frankie Crocker (who was the PD of WBLS back in the 70's/80's), was kinda like that back then but Ebro is no Frankie Crocker. Whether you love him or hate him, the only dude that's holding that station down is Flex. Because through it all, Flex ratings are still number 1. And he was smart enough early to invest in other avenues outside the radio. Hot 97 is ironically similar to the Lakers of today. Historical franchise but has been in a recent slump with only 1 star player (Flex being Kobe) while 105 is flourishing like the Clippers.

Power and Hot97 can co-exist, but not by shytting on each other constantly and throwing wack ass subliminal. They fight over getting the same artists to come to their stations when those very artists will still come thru anyway. The PDs could EASILY tell their on-air personalities to tone the bullshyt down and those cats will listen (because they wanna continue to eat). But both stations need personalities WITH personality that can do great interviews and talk to these artists about the shyt that you cant already find online. Breakfast Club does OK interviews but they talk over/interrupt the artists on some Combat Jack shyt. Cats need to listen to old Howard Stern shows because dude knew how to control/direct an interview without the interruptions. Howard didnt care about being friends with these on air personalities like the Hip Hop radio stations care so much about. Howard's ratings were thru the roof so you HAD TO fukk with his show just like you fukked with Jay Leno, Letterman, Conan, etc.....

Yea, they can co-exist. But in today's climate (where the demographic and system has changed) if either one of them wants to be number 1 overall again, one would have to go. Because with one gone, it puts all the focus on that other station (which ever that maybe) for listeners wanting to listen to Hip Hop.
