Everybody is after that elite qb and I think that's the problem. U can win with a game manager, great run game and great d. I think it would be easier to develop a guy just a step or 2 below elite and win with him if u build a great squad around him. For us fans it's usually elite or bust though.

I don't think any of those guys would qualify as game managers either.

I'm not talking about any of them specifically, though we did get to back to back afc chip games with sanchez. I'm speaking in general terms

Rules are in place for a qb in today's game. If u can find an elite qb you're a contender for a decade plus but as you mentioned they don't grow on trees

Problem is unless you have a cowboys like oline which nobody does it's nearly impossible to have a dominant running game and build your team around it in today's NFL

Defense is hard to be dominant in today's NFL as well.I know the broncos did it last year but Manning as bad as he looked at times still was savvy enough to put the team in The proper looks and he didn't turn it over much in the playoffs. With an inept qb this year broncos are gonna miss the playoffs

So yes you can win a super bowl without a very good or great qb but your window is only a few years because the hard cap is gonna destroy whatever great unit you have masking the qb position

Yea but if u keep bending over backwards for that elite qb and missing every swing, u end up in that endless loop this franchise is in.

They've just drafted bad prospects. Looking back they should have just traded up for Mariotta. At some point they're going to have to go all in on someone.

Forte sitting today...

Still don't understand why the fukk these idiots let a 31 year old rb with a torn meniscus play in a meaningless game last week...

Apparently dude needed to get nerve damage in his shoulder to sit...:stopitslime:

It's truly mind-numbing how incompetent this organization is on all levels...

If there's a sure fire can't miss qb sitting there and we have a chance to trade up to get him go for it, but when's the last time there was a sure fire cant miss unanimously celebrated qb out there? It's usually guys that CAN be great and if they end up in the RIGHT situations with the RIGHT staff end up being great. Jets are historically bad at developing these guys which is why I'm never on team #tanktheseason. I have no trust that a guy like Carr would have been so good with either rex or bowles leading the team.

Mariotta hit all the baseline stuff that generally translates to the NFL. High YPA, high completion percentage and a 3 year starter. No one is cant miss but there are ways to identify guys that will probably be good.

Some guys are more NFL ready than others but you still are going to need to develop their skills on the NFL level and the Jets are where QBs go to die...

We don't develop anybody...

Mariota was far from can't miss. There were a ton of question marks from system to lack of arm strength

The last no brainer was Luck

No one is cant miss. But Mariotta was worth trading up for. Would you trade Williams, Devin Smith and Lee for Mariotta? No brainer.

Ryan leaf probably hit all that baseline stuff too. Akili Smith. Etc etc. I just don't trust that this team can scout or develop good qb talent, at least not while every coach we've had as long as I remember has been a defensive guy with limited offensive knowledge.
