Aww man, classic era. :mjgrin:Avirex leathers, denim on denim Canadian tuxedos from urban brands, mid top Air Force 1's with the straps, 6" Timbs in all crazy colors and flavors, New Era fitted caps with the Chinese character logo on the front and the baseball team logo in the back, all urban brand everything fashion or nothing (i.e. Phat Farm, Fubu, Enyce, Maurice Malone, Mecca USA). You had black malls and white malls. And you actually had to go to the mall to buy clothes, buy CD's (going to the music store was an experience in itself and damn near every CD that came out in the 90's was classic), hang out with your boys, holler at girls. No social media. No YouTube. The most high tech thing I was doing online back in 99' was downloading free roms of all of my favorite NES and SNES games. BET was all videos everyday all day. The 1999 BET was like WorldstarHipHop before Q died. 1999 was like the beginning of the video hoe thot era when music videos became like soft porn and you would watch the videos to see the same bad ass bytches in every other video. :takedat:This was the era when BET started to rightfully earn its c00nish reputation. :mjpls:R&B was something serious at the turn of the millennium. 90's female vets like Mary J, Aalyiah and TLC were still making good music, Donnell Jones dropped an everlasting chill out theme with "Say What". Cash Money dominated Rap. Gnause dropped the good I Am but followed with the epic flop that was Nastradamus. Everyone was scared Y2K would bring the apocolypse and literally shut everything the fukk down and nothing happened. :pachaha:1999 was the very beginning of the gentrification era when crime in the hood started to die down significantly and white folks started to invest more in the hood nationwide. Molly was called ecstasy and that shyt was popping in the club scene with both whites and blacks. The media sensationalized that shyt and made it seem like doing ex was like doing crack. The economy was good in the late 90's and it seemed like everybody was getting paper and wasn't stressing like that no more. :myman:And the music and the culture reflected that. Jay continued his version of the Jiggy era in 99'. People weren't angry looking, dirty, grimey and broke looking like what was cool in the early to mid 90's (93-95') when everybody was wearing dusty army fatigues and Timbs or dirty looking flannels and Chucks.

That was 98. Spurs won in 99. Jordan retired in 98.

Nah, that was early 99. The league was still in a lockout and MJ's retirement (13th January 1999) officially confirmed the end of that Bulls team. Pippen would end up traded to the Rockets a week later and Rodman signed with the Lakers.

Sophmore year of college. Rawkus Records had shyt on lock for me. Mos Def, Soundbombing 2, Pharoahe, DJ Spinna.

West Coast underground was putting heavy work too. Dilated People's first album, Planet Asia smashing every track he appeared on, Defari, Barbershop Mcs, Hiero.

And the debut of a future hip-hop legend, The Alchemist, dropping his debut production on Severe's 12" single with O.C.

Shout out out to Bobbito's Footworks's in Philly where I used to cop mad vinyl, battle, and freestyle on a reg with up and coming Philly artists.

Was supposed to collab with Jedi Mind Tricks way before Violent By Design dropped. Remember pollying with Peanut Butter Wolf through email trying to get signed. Back when rumors of Madlib having tracks for artists for less than $2,000 :damn::damn:

The NBA lockout. Mos Def coming on Power 99 in Philly happy and giddy as fukk the day the Knicks beat the Pacers to make it to the Finals and doing an live on air off the top freestyle over "Vivrant Thing" with his own impromptu hook, "Title Ring, Title Ring! This year we win the Title Ring"

Sorry Mos. :heh: I got a better shot at winning an NBA Chip than the Knicks ever do.

Tenchu and Res Evil 3 on PS1 :ahh:

The Blair Witch Project had me :leon::dwillhuh::ohhh::gladbron::lupe: all at the same time.

Also the era of the one of the worst times in hip-hop. The east coast, iced out crucifix wearing, fitted hat, thug rapper and his microwave trash ass Casio production. (Thanks Swizz :hhh:)

in Bridgeport
Bridgeport and New Haven were rough back then

I'll never forget I went out to this club in Bridgeport one night. it was a small spot, but there was seriously like 8 big fights that night. the last one they turned on the lights and kicked everyone out. when I was leaving I noticed a single sneaker in the middle of the dance floor. when I got outside, the cops had this kid hemmed up, and he only had one sneaker on. idk why, but that shyt was so funny to me :lolbron:

I've been at spots where cats got stabbed, shot, and other crazy shyt, but that night in Bridgeport always stood out to me. shyt was straight trife life

Just finished my first year at Wichita State.

I got a kidney infection and nearly died. Literally :flabbynsick:.

It's when I first learned how to steal music in industrial quantities via IRC.

I got a DVD player.

I saw the worst movie ever made.

Basically, I remember a ton of Y2K hype.
