Hitboy is nice on the beats and pretty original. Love how many of his beats have that surprise factor where something starts happening in the middle of the song giving it a breath of fresh air. He combines traditional and modern sounds, which is really dope.

Dude first caught my attention with ASAP Rocky - Goldie, then came The Clique and N*s in Paris. After some time I spent sleeping on him, the beats he did for Nipsey (Rick ross joint, racks in the middle...) and his solo stuff made me start checking for him again. He's on fire right now. Can't wait for the new material.

why did nas do an album with hit boy and not Primo or AZ?
@Ziggiy has mentioned some reasons but I can give some as well.

The AZ question is easy to answer. I imagine Nas hasn't thought it to be artistically fulfilling enough to do it. They have great chemistry, but that doesn't mean either of them want to do a full album just because their hardcore fans want to hear it. And I say this coming from someone that will always want more NAs and AZ together.

Honestly, it ain't easy to do an album with Primo. He's not the easiest cat to work with. He moves on his time and is kind of infamous for not always moving in a timely fashion or being punctual. Nas tends to work on his own time too, so they probably have missed each other a lot. Also, there are frankly doper cats Nas could do full albums with. Pete Rock on average has been much sharper the past few years than Primo.

Hit-Boy is dope, man. I think it's dope when veterans work with newer artists. We give veteran producers like Alchemist and Madlib lots of props when they work with younger rappers, so I think we should extend the same compliments to veteran rappers that work with younger producers.

Also, I imagine Nas is just really sick of people asking him when he's gonna do an album with Primo or AZ. It's human nature to push back on things that start to feel like they're nagging you. It's unrealistic to expect Nas fans to not ask for these projects, but we also need to understand that the more we ask for them, the more unappealing they probably feel to Nas.

True artists (like Nas) usually like to do things that feel organic. Hit-Boy hasn't had a very big name, so Nas certainly didn't choose to work with him for clout. I imagine working with Hit-Boy felt organic and fun to him.

Its a very good album but Hit Boy’s bars are kind of basic. NOT wack but they don’t really stay with you after you’ve heard the song.

I knew after hearing the production though that he was going to give Nas some FIRE beats
Yeah

but I almost never expect someone who is a dope producer to be an amazing rapper.

I just look at it as they way to make intimate projects and get some bars off in they point of view

Definitely. I've known some producer-rappers, and another reason I'd throw in there too is a lot of times they know they don't have the best bars, but they have little flows or cadences they want to try out. A lot of times they hear certain pockets and want to try things out.

There are some producer-rappers that don't have the most mind-blowing bars but they do have some really dope deliveries and flows.
