Found this on reddit..kind of interesting
Parallels abound in this episode! We saw many scenes with characters performing similar actions with very different motivations.
Theon vs Rabbits
Theon's flesh was stripped away for the sheer joy of it, where earlier there was a scene depicting an argument over who was better at skinning rabbits. Two "good guys" were arguing about who was best at separating skin from flesh, and we actually saw the whole skinned animals without feeling too gross about it. The main difference (besides animals vs humans) is in the motivation - for the girls, it was about survival. Theon's torture is just for fun.
Ros vs Straw Man
Joffrey and Arya stark are kind of monsters. Sure, they have their reasons, but they're two sides of the same death coin that keeps getting flipped around this episode. Arya's hell bent on murdering those she finds to be unjust, and Joffrey's treating murder like a sport. Just to make sure we really picked up on this, the episode had both of them shoot arrows in the exact same areas. Same ultimate intentions, but the motivations are very different.
Varys vs Littlefinger
These are two smart men who are playing the game on a whole different level from many of the characters we've been introduced to. In this episode, we see again that Varys truly believes that his actions will better the realm. Littlefinger makes a big to-do about how his machinations have all been because he's a true agent of chaos. They seem to be taking on a morally ambiguous "angel and devil on the shoulder" arrangement, with Varys favoring order - even if it's built on lies - while Littlefinger's all about the raw power of truth and chaos.
Anyway, just some observations. Theon's tormentor reminded me of this scene from the movie Rubber where they discuss motivation. LF and V's verbal parrying at the end made me think about it further. Was there anything that I missed?
