Littlefinger is a lord he was just a small one pre-blackwater. Think something like the Mayor of a small town vs the mayor of lets say the mayor of Los Angeles...much more power because you are in charge of more people.

He is referred to as "Lord Baelish" from his position on the small council though, the same way Varys holds no real lands but it still Lord Varys due to his position as Master of Whispers.

Littlefinger is now a REAL lord because he was awarded Harenhall, which gives him lands titles and a base that makes him on the level with some of the great lords like the Tyrells and Arryns.

Think about him like Rahm Emanuel, guy from regular not political beginnings ends up working for the president and is now mayor of Chicago the third biggest city in the US.

I think Littlefinger is one of the most amazing people in the show and books, hate to say it but i'd rather a guy like Varys or Littlefinger on my team than any one from the Stark Set or Lannister or whatever.

Sometimes its the man NEXT TO the man that is really the one worth killing.

keep a nikka on his toes. Its like in that manga Ruoini Kenshin where dude had a guy on his team JUST to try and kill him every now and then to keep him sharp.

The work that could be done with one on your team would be nothing short of amazing....

another tidbit, notice how before the way Varys was the go to guy for info. He had all the birds and all the answers, a war pops off...and "chaos" ensues and Littlefinger has been nothing short of golden for the better part of the entire conflict....dude was correct about chaos being a ladder because he's getting it in like never before.
