You should look at Japan where people are literally working themselves to death.

The problem was again highlighted this week, when public broadcaster NHK said authorities determined the death of reporter Miwa Sado in 2013 was caused by overwork. The 31 year old died of heart failure.

A year after Ms Sado's death, local authorities concluded the political journalist clocked up to 159 hours of overtime a month. She only had two days off in the month leading up to her death.

People don't get paid OT until after 60 hours and some don't get paid at all.

2. Spend an hour risking life and limb to get to work
3. Arrive at work incredibly stressed due to heavy traffic

Exactly....Germany has a higher standard of living while paying less for everyday expenses. At this point, America needs BASIC INCOME where people will get a check to pay for everyday expenses simply cause they are living. Especially when automation is on the horizon and the permanent unemployment rate will be over 50% in the near future.

Working 10+ hours and never seeing your spouse and children is suicide for the family unit. That is why people get mad at their bosses, shoot up the work place, and cheat with their co workers of the opposite sex very often. How is it any form of humane not to see your loved ones?
