Instead of talking about black self sufficiency, arguing for simply legal egalitarianism, but maintaining black independence economically and educationally, the Rustins of the world rejected this because they didn't get the white love and acceptance they wanted.
That need for white acceptance in all factors of life, is built off and feeds into the concept of white supremacy and black inferiority. So to me the integrationist argument was an inherent white supremacist argument.
Never really looked at Baldwin, but looking at his stances compared to Malcolm in the video posted below, I would say he would be in the same camp as Rustin.
