Mike Smith and TD must go at the end of this season, period. Even if they miraculously somehow turn it around and get into the playoffs. The NFC South is that weak. So, it's possible.
For all of the noise that we read about the Julio Jones trade and how they gave away so many picks, causing depth issues, no one takes him to task the other horrible draft picks that Dimitroff actually made. So, it's not like IF he kept those picks, that they would've amounted to anything anyway. The best 3 picks that he made were Julio, Ryan, and Trufant...in how many years??? Moore seems to be hurt each year, and so it also seems with Witherspoon. That's a horrible draft record for a GM.
Smith is a nice guy, but he's done all that he can do, and it appears that this is where it ends. The players aren't responding to him.
I'm guessing that Arthur Blank will go after Jon Gruden as head coach, and Rex Ryan as the defensive coordinator to get the team back on track. Gruden will maximize the next 2-3 years of Ryan, Julio, Roddy, Hester, and Douglass, plus Freeman/Rodgers. Matthews will have a full year under his belt. Combined with Blalock and Asomoah, and you have the most solid OL in the recent team's history. A couple more pieces will help. Baker gotta go.
Ryan isn't the best head coach, but he's a great DC and his players respond to him. No dogs on his defense. He doesn't tolerate it. Biermann and Osi gotta go. Ryan would rebuild this, starting with Leonard Williams of USC.
Blank appears to be done with Smith and TD, at this point.
