Yes they are.
:coffee:
No they're not. What reason does Texas have to be scared of Houston? A market that Texas already has? What would Houston bring that the Big 12 does not already have? Why do you think it's only Texas that didn't care for Houston in the conference? You think the other members wanted Houston?

His dumbass really thought the Big 12 was going to scrape the bottom of the barrel and invite Houston.

The Big 12 has 10 teams. That's a JOKE.

Houston and maybe BYU would have both been pretty good adds. I'd rather have them than have USF, Cincy, etc.

But of course Houston would really mess up recruiting because Herman would've messed up recruiting for TCU/Baylor/Texas/OU/OSU.

If Texas has no fear of Houston, why are they against Houston joining the conference?

BYU is NEVER a good choice.

Houston is a flash in the pan football team. They bring no real value to the Big 12. That would be a step backwards.

Culturally, no. Financially, BYU is a great choice.

Houston, with the right coach, is a potentially good program. Nobody ever stays there long enough bc it's not a P5 job.

Takes recruits away from local schools. They can play the "TV sets" game all they want. UH get in, that's more comp for recruits that are already getting pillaged since aTm went to the SEC

BYU is not worth the trouble. The athletics staff is a pain in the ass and they think they are owed way more than they deserve. No one likes them at all. Shyt is crazy, trust me.

Houston potentially being good is not good enough for the Big 12.

They're trying to build a satellite campus in Houston.
And if Houston would have gotten into the Big 12, Herman stays there....and the Texas program would be in trouble since the Charlie Strong situation was a fiasco from the beginning. Don't nobody want to go and deal with that bullshyt.

Houston not getting in was the saving grace for Texas' dysfunctional program.

What is Texas and Oklahoma's long term plan? OU I believe is joined at the hip with Oklahoma St. Anyway, what is their plan moving forward because this conference has really taken a step back.

Conference realignment is only about eyeballs.. TCU was a desperate take just like Houston would be. They are both fine athletically, but they don't add enough to the TV money. That's why Cincinnati was considered a better take than Houston. I guess people from outside of Texas don't realize that A&M and Texas dominate the tv viewing in the state, with Tech a distant 3rd. A&M, Missouri, Colorado and Nebraska were big losses as far as tv revenue goes. BYU and Cincy would have made sense if you could get them but that's it. Its obvious now they would only have been able to get Cinci. You don't just add Houston because you can't get someone else and they weren't going to add an odd number. I think a lot of people just think of BYU as some oddball school in the mountains, but they are the Mormon Notre Dame, with alumni all over the world and their own network. They would have been a great get for any conference, except you have to deal with them religiously which is a big no go for many major universities because of some of the official Mormon Church stances

Texas and OU are doing fine financially and both are waiting for the best situation for themselves, which may be when the Big XII tv contract is up as well as the current CFP contract. There's no need to panic right now for either.

If you're wondering why Texas hasn't played Houston in a while, it goes back to the early 2000s. Texas and Houston agreed to a home and home for 4 years. The agreement was to play at DKR the first year, then the Astrodome in its final year to have a larger crowd then back to DKR, then to NRG. Houston instead wanted to play at Robertson Stadium, which held like 25000 at the time, which broke the contract for the last game. For that game, they erected about 10,000 temp stands, but a large section that was mostly Texas fans was condemned, angering Texas officials. They haven't played since.

It's not a "TV sets" game. It is the main reason conference realignment happens. Not competition for recruits.

The Big 12 will be dissolved within the next decade. Does it really matter?

What is Texas and Oklahoma's long term plan? OU I believe is joined at the hip with Oklahoma St. Anyway, what is their plan moving forward because this conference has really taken a step back.

Once the Fox contract is over(2025 or so I think), Texas and OU are gonna bounce and the conference will dissolve

Building a satellite campus has nothing to do with already having the market. Texas and A&M dominates every market in the state. This has nothing to do with Tom Herman and the Houston program. Does the University of Houston add more eyeballs for the conference in the Houston market? No, it does not.
