:mjlol: the things nikkas tell themselves....

.Akira Toriyama loosely modeled Dragon Ballon the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West;[2][3] but also redeveloped it from his 1983 one-shot manga Dragon Boy.[3] He has said that the fighting was influenced from movies by famous martial arts actor Jackie Chan,[4][5] and Hong Kong martial arts filmssuch as Enter the Dragon and Drunken Master,[6] as he wanted to create a story with the basic theme of Journey to the West, but with "a little kung fu."[7]

Akira would probably :laff: at you in your face if you told him this.

Boy, let them Asians have their shyt. Everything ain't created with us as the main driving point

Once Goku and company had become the strongest on Earth, they turned to extraterrestrial opponents including the Saiyans (サイヤ人 Saiya-jin); and Goku himself was retconned from an Earthling to a Saiyan who was sent to Earth as a baby.[12] Freeza, who forcibly took over planets to resell them, was created around the time of the Japanese economic bubble and was inspired by real estate speculators, whom Toriyama called the "worst kind of people."[5] Finding the escalating enemies difficult, he created the Ginyu Force to add more balance to the series. When Toriyama created the Super Saiyan (超スーパーサイヤ人 Sūpā Saiya-jin)transformation during the Freeza arc, he was initially concerned that Goku's facial expressions as a Super Saiyan made him look like a villain, but decided it was acceptable since the transformation was brought about by anger. .

Isn’t Vegeta how Toriyama views cacs? :russ:

Loud, cocky, rude. That’s why he has English names for his attacks

I forgot where I read this from Though :yeshrug:

lmao it's cool if you love DBZ but let's pump the brakes a little bit

toriyama has had at best ignorant and at worst outright racist characterizations of black people dating back to the original dragon ball

the monkey form is based on ancient chinese fables not treatment of black people lol

also the super saiyan form itself is a lowkey nod to the nazi ubermensch, shyt they even put hitler in one of the movies and referenced this themselves lol

I grew up watching Journey to the west. Wukong, Wujing, Bajie. Sun Wukong is the asian equivalent of Horus, or Heru, which is where the story of the HERO, or what we call "superhero" is lifted from. That's why Superman and Goku for example are so similar.

Storytelling is a form of indoctrination on this planet. There's alot more going on in society that what you see beneath the surface. It's not about self esteem or claiming people's shyt

The dub threw that reference in after the fact, he said nothing of such in the Japanese version. In fact, his Japanese line is about them being delinquents, because in Japanese culture it's considered a rebellious act to dye your hair blonde because of how homogenous Japanese society is.

Your "theory" falls apart even more when you factor in that Toriyama originally intended Super Saiyans to have red eyes:

And he picked Golden hair because as a light color, his ink assistant wouldn't have to color Goku's hair in every panel anymore.

We've really got to stop being narcissistic ass Americans and applying Western story and culture elements to an East Asian series from a country that was isolated until the 1850's. They don't give a fukk.
