If the South wants to celebrate the Civil War, then we need our Nat Turner statues.

I hear you..but in the end its all symbolism. Even u stated it wont make the message stronger but it can be used as a talking point in a civil war argument. Look at how we posted up Martin Luther King BLVDs in Black neighborhoods all over the country.....and what was the outcome? Black comedians would even make jokes about it....Any street with MLK on it is more then likely the worst street to be on. And why is that? Why is it that the worst blocks are named after people like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X? So our people cant stop and say "Hey, lets not do dirt on this block"...... In the end these are just symbolic gestures

I agree with what u said about us having the right to put up statues where we feel.....That was my overall message to The OP, Be about it dont talk about it...But he's already displayed he's not to bright, he wouldnt qualify to even carry out such a task.

I think you misunderstood me or maybe I wasn't clear my breh, I meant the talking point itself helps our message because its something we can use whenever they pull that southern heritage card out. Its a easy shut down to that foolishness. They use talking points and parrot dumb shyt all the time, this is one we can use thats actually smart and makes them foolish. We need shyt like that to combat the madness that they spew, if not them same lies will be told enough to where they become actual "history"

Like I said, I agree with you on the non action part of it, but the statues need to go up. That's the only fair solution to it. How we go about getting on the same page and doing that is a whole different discussion.

Thats top secret information

I understand perferctly what u said....I just don't think using it as a talking point is enough tho. That makes it a tit for tat situation. Talking points wont change a racists views. If anything I'd rather they put up for the symbolic gesture that I spoke about. A talking point wont stop the failing school systems. A talking point wont stop the drug problems in the urban community. A talking point wont even stop racism. I dont want to put up a statue and then go "OK now just let one of these rednecks say something..I got a talking point for that ass"

Like I said in that other thread, it was a spit in the face that Philly has a stutue of Rocky, a white fictional character but no statue of Joe Frazier. And Joe Frazier gave plenty back to Philly. In such a case someone should counter that by building a statue of Joe Fraizier as a symbol of a real champion Boxer that repped philly..But even with that said, what if a white person notices the lack of a Joe Frazier statue...what would that mean if a white person builds it? What if some rich white liberal reads this thread and goes "I'm gonna build statues all over this country of Black leaders" would that be sufficent? The statues are getting built correct? Would it be ok if some white liberal takes up the task being that OP nor no any Black person wont? They've done things like that before.

:jbhmm:

Its something to think about.

Did the fam do a DNA test? I've heard this theory before too but never any confirmation.

I don't know if they did a DNA test. But this would explain why Ben and Samuel allowed Nat to have more privileges than other slaves such as being taught to read and write, allowing him to be in and preach at a white church, he was able to leave the plantation, etc.

Im in my upper 30s and had a problem with that flag and they values as a child in michigan. Now i get i get to see them taken down
He took the surname, why do you say turner was his father?

I went on the Nat Turner Trail Tour last year and that's what the tour guide and Nat's relative said. Ben Turner was Nats bio father. The story about his dad running away is a coverup.

When I get home, I'll take a pic of the story from the book that I bought while I was down there.

"But what you doing about it"?
Talking about it with other black folks here to see what a consensus is amongst other educated black folks. See your way out this thread cac.

I was at a bar for lunch yesterday. I had pizza and beer. While eating the news was on the tv talking about they taking down Christopher Columbus statues. The cook from the back must have been taking a break and was seated at the bar listening. He said "they taking down CC statues now ...for what...messing with a few indians? "...He also said "this is ridiculous". I drank my beer and ate my pizza, wiped my mouth clean then, gave the bartender $3 tip and left.

Nat Turner's rebellion killed about 50 slave owners and in retaliation over 100 random black people were executed in the streets; I'm not really interested in celebrating a loss.

I'd rather have a statue of Katherine Johnson -- the black woman whose mathematical expertise helped us get to the moon.

I'd rather the world see monuments of our great thinkers rather than re-enforce the idea that all we've done for 400 years is fight with white people.

There is room for plurality and I agree she and a lot of others deserve one as well. I was specifically coming from the perspective that if the South has monuments dedicated to people who openly rebelled against the government, we should have some monuments for those who openly rebelled against slavery.
