Black Americans need to start drawing the line between black culture and hiphop culture. Not everything thats hiphop is black. Not everything thats "hood" is black. Not everything that's black is hiphop. Not everything that's black is "hood".
Hiphop culture as a whole needs to take a hard look at itself and cleanse itself and stop celebrating negativity.

It makes no sense to me how, i sometimes meet young black americans who come from good, and even prominent families YET try so hard to identify themselves as "hood" and mimic the fukery just so they can claim they have "street cred".
TRUTH!

All I have to go to is @Napoleon and his Curtis sc00n thread to know that the bolded has effected black people here terribly!!!!!!

Our own culture has been co-opted, used against us, and we've been sold it hook line and sinker and think that this is the definition of blackness when it's not.

Sad that black folk from good middle class families still want to move backwards and live in a lifestyle filled with ratchet nonsense, just to appeal to the "real" people that engage in ignorance. The most hated individual in America is the humble, educated black person.

I've thought the same myself. I think one of the things that will help undo the stranglehold gang culture has on black america is to encourage eduaction and achievement outside of sports and entertainment. It's like these kids come from bad backgrounds and disadvantaged communities. And when people are kept away from opportunity and feel like they are on the other side of the fence, they will find opportunities to make money through illegal ventures like drugs which eventually leads to violence regarding those issues. There are too many of us programmed with that mindset that to be educated is akin to "acting white" or not "keeping it real". There shouldn't be cases where black men are respected more for going to jail or getting out of jail than going to college and getting out of college.

There too many of us that just want to stay ignorant and not educate ourselves. That's why Drill Music and the whole Chiraq thing being so widely promoted gets on my nerves to an extent. It just feels like whenever that stuff gets attention (not to dismiss talent or whatnot), it's a complicit and unspoken pat on the back for being ignorant, being self-destructive, violent, dumb, criminal, and every other negative stereotype that has and was ever assigned to black people.

It's very sad but I remember when I would point this out to kats during the Trayvon Martin debates and they would act like I was being sacrilegious. Let me tell you how powerful White Supremacy is in some folks minds. It's so strong that the loss of a black life is only worth truly getting upset over if a white man(or in this case a White Hispanic) does it. Otherwise it's business as usual. The media feeds this and gets a pass without fail. Now that's sad commentary but who can deny it's the truth. Now just watch someone come in here and cape for madness. They'll bring up how Trayvon got done dirty. So every death in cities like Chicago is a fair fight? Kats meet at noon, walk ten paces and whoever fires first lives to fight another day? :comeon:

The bolded is the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I think about this...why should black people have to be afraid of other black people like this? why should we feel programmed to hate and fear each other and give power to those over us?

50 years ago and prior...black people would go to white neighborhoods and feel fear and hostility and go to their neighborhoods to breathe a sigh of relief and feel like part of a community again. Now, we can go into white neighborhoods and people won't even flinch and eye at us and go to our neighborhoods and feel that we have to put our guard up and protect ourselves from each other at any moment's notice. Sometimes I feel that black people just don't want to face reality in this country until it's too late or take accountability en masse. Yeah, we could talk about "the white man" all day...but at the end of the day, a generation of black people in this country has been destroyed by black people.

There aren't enough good black examples. Sometimes your parents isn't enough. We need better and more leaders in the community and media.

This. Like I said, when the amount of the black representation out there is negative it's not a good look. Rappers, R&B singers, and athletes aren't enough. As well, not every black kid is geared to be the next Jeezy, Trey Songz, or Derrick Rose. There needs to be more of a focus on education and entrepeneurship. As well, creating jobs and giving these kids outlets that let them know that there are other and more fruitful alternatives to gangs and the streets.

Its all mental. We teach these kids that there is no hope for them.
I remember when I was 17. I was kickin it w/ some of my cousins people on the west side of Chicago (found out later it was a dope spot)...anyway, one of them was like "what you gon go to college and be a doctor or something :smugbiden:?" They were all talking like doing anything w/ their life wasnt a possibility.
and you see it on here...cats always talking about how white folks prevent black people from doing anything, and in turn that makes the whole culture feel helpless. So now you got all these people sitting on their ass w/ a laundry list of excuses as to why their life isnt shyt.
and if anyone says anything against these excuses youre a CAC/c00n.

Yo...the bolded is some real talk...

This would be such a perfect solution. Parents checking homework and discuss future goals with their kids. We need these churches to start programs to better the community. They make enough money to do it.:mjpls:

If a KKK member made a popular song and let it circulate, black folks would be up in arms and yelling at how unrighteous white people are, but when we have gangster rappers like MC Eiht who literally said he kills more negroes than the KKK. Go to the 1:48 mark of this song.

That's what we have been doing for years now and how did that turn out. This type of music and culture is very damaging and we should do something about it. Ignoring issues that plague out communities has fukked us big time unlike any other racial group.

Honestly, that sentiment is why this shyt has gone on for so long. Too many people think that hip-hop + ghetto = black. Nah. And honestly, that's an outsider's oint of view. Although I know and respect @observe that mentality is killig us cause that's how outsiders think of us and this shyt. They just view our own demise as their sick entertainment. They just want savage music they can't relate to that bangs in the whip. They don't give a flying phuck about our lives, our families,or future, they don't even consider us human...just a source of entertainment or as an accessory to their lifestyle. They see us as cartoon characters with this stuff. They don't want us to better ourselves. They don't want to see us move up in society...they want us permanently at the bottom to feel better about themselves.

In fact, I think this is why the chicago drill music scene has had such a complicit following by white hipsters and suburbanites. Deep down they listen to these tracks with rappers saying "kill all these p*ssy n1ggas" and it makes them feel superior.

This is why the black intellectual I believed is feared cause he/she has the potential, intelligence, and education to challenge the wrongs of society.

When black people f*ck up it's bad, but when we excel...boy can we excel and be brilliant farther than anyone else.

Some poster said that we are complicit to our own demise cause we believe this is what black culture is...nah. WE need to hold accountability for our own actions and output and check each other on our bullshyt instead of letting it slide cause "the beat knocks" or we think it's cool. We need to stop cosigning ignorance.

Comedy. Clown the fukk out of the gang lifestyle on some Chris Rock shyt. Make these little ass killers feel bad about themselves by having the general population shyt on their lifestyle. Shame them enough, and they will change or kill themselves.
That's not a bad tactic actually :ehh:
School kids making fun of knuckle heads who will end up broke :ehh:

Making fun of gang tattoos :mjlol:

:ohhh:
Lmao laughing wouldn't solve anything.

Man, If you ask me, in a perfect world all these gangs would go back to how they were in the 60's and 70's when they marched with Dr. King for civil rights and when they actually stood for something.
