Its the sociopathic element of Batman which is extremely compelling. An extreme vigilante approach towards Justice which isn't corrupted by selfishness. Constant self awareness be it on shortcomings, strengths or exploitable traits of both himself and others. His over-zealousness and dedication is so extreme it ends up alienating or disillusioning his OWN proteges. One of the coldest Bruce Lines is when he fought Owlman and tells him. "We both stared into the Abyss. Difference is you Blinked, I didn't"
