I actually think is a pretty good answer/response even if I still think Dre is bigger. Dre's song in the back half of that year was played literally everywhere you went out here. Sporting events, in traffic, at your own home, at someone elses home, clubs, strip clubs, on the radio, etc
I was 7 at the time and even I remember hearing it everywhere. shyt I remember one time at the youth choir rehearsal for church the piano guy started playing it :russ:

Sometimes these billboard stats don't make sense.
Still Dre peaked at 93 - but went 4 times platinum :patrice:
It reminds me of If I Ruled the World peaking in the 40s to 50s but It Was Written being the #1 album in the country behind it. :patrice:
IIRC after 1996 Billboard stopped counting airplay as much in their chart calculations. Cuz you used to have songs topping the charts that weren't even released as singles.

Plus back then a lot of songs would hit the radio way before they were released.

Yeah it doesnt add up at all. Both songs got ridiculous play on the radio (IIRTW), in clubs (Still DRE) and in cars (both) over here in Europe, shyt was everywhere

Maybe ppl rather bought 2001 and IWW off the strength off those heavyhitters?
Even though you told me in this post from four years ago that you’re from Europe, I must have forgot because I always assumed you were from the South :prodigylol:

Jay Z wrote the lyrics
MelMan made the beat
Scott Storch laid the piano

What exactly did Dre do :dwillhuh:
He produced it and came up with it, i.e. it would exist if it wasn't for Dre. That's why Scott Storch and Mel-man can make music with better emcees than Dre and it never be the same level of greatness

We need to define comeback because Dre didn't fall off either. He was in the lab with a pen and a pad. To me a comeback is disappearing for a while or coming back from a flop or jail like Remy
The whole song is about him not falling off and fighting off flops like The Firm and Dr Dre presents aftermath though, definitely a comeback song.

He was even reminding people that his last actual album was a classic

Nah, everyone and their momma said Dre fell off from 96-99,basically after leaving Death Row. Whether the Aftermath compilation, Firm album, Zoom single, that horrible song with Ras Kass, that supergay cut on It Was Written...Dre suffered multiple letdowns
