I've been saying we are due for a "meh" season since the Harbaugh trade rumors started based on nothing but a hunch :manny: I hope I'm wrong though, I'm still very curious to see how we look on offense with so many weapons and everyone being aware of Harbaufg/Roman's issues (a glimmer of hope for some changes).

I think there will be some struggle just because the cb's are new. The Broncos had no problem scoring the last game.

maiocco says that one source told him Niners are looking for a first or second for Boone and another source says theyre not interested in trading him altogether

that sound about right. basically we might trade him for 1st and 2nd but if no one will bite (and I doubt anyone will for that price + salary hes demanding) we'll just keep him here.

I don't like the idea of just keeping Boone out of football because we don't wanna pay him.

It's clear he wont be back here, so why not continue to build for the future and get draft picks for him.

This being said, I could see some real hard times for our line. Anthony Davis is coming back off injury and you`ll have Kigore/Looney filling up the line.

The right side of the line might not gel well.

People have been predicting the niners downfall since we went 13-3 in Harbs first year. But I am starting to develop an uneasy feeling. So many question marks. Think I have to agree with @yseJ when he said this was going to be a transitional year. This might be one of those 9-7,8-8 type of years I hope I'm wrong. :snoop:

I`m getting that same feeling.

While the offense may flourish, the defense may take a real step back, and the competition is strong in our division, a few bad breaks i can see this being 8-8 type of year,

They'll basically trade him if somebody comes with an offer that blows them away. An offer like that (if one ever materializes) won't happen until after the season starts.

Calm down, people.
Players hate playing at Candlestick, but they still did the damn thang.
This is a slow news period, so everything gets blown out of proportion and hyper-scrutinized.

Look at the positives;
- Stacked offense
- A healthy, more mature Kaepernick
- A healthy, and determined Crabtree playing in a contract year
- Anquan Boldin, a grown-ass man doin grown man shyt on the field
- Frank the Tank and Carlos Hyde

The defense is missing Bowman, but the heart and soul of it haven't played a single down in preseason.

These cats are professionals, and will rise to the occasion when called upon.

Gabbert does look like trash, if he doesn't show in the next 2 weeks, i say cut him and give JJ the job.

As far as worries, the defense is what worries me most, you mentioned only the offense in the positives haha.

Aldon likely starting the season on the bench for probably anywhere from 4-12 games.

Secondary being a brand new group for the most part, gonna take time to gel and who even knows if the pieces are legit.

No Bow.

No Dorsey.

Then you factor in the inexperience on the line if we don't get Boone on board.

It's just some real reason for concern

I think that once the front seven is together again, they'll compliment our secondary.
The success of a secondary is predicted on the ability to out pressure on the QB and cause him to rush his throws or disrupt the offense.

What is saw during not preseason games is that, during the first quarters, they're hardly put any pressure on the QB.
It's almost impossible to blanket every receiver, so the up front help is paramount.

I think my boy Acker is gonna have a good year (if there's room for him). Dude is physical and hungry.

I think we can all agree defense will take a step back, at least for first half of season

the question is if the offense being better will 'cancel' that out completely

personally, Im not sure it will. I think if defense bombs the weaknesses of the offense - such as bad clock management, lots of 3 and outs an chunk yardage, will become more glaring and magnified.

I really hope Im wrong, but defense right now is a bit worrisome. Ill feel a lot better when vorro comes back to anchor it in the middle or if any of the new secondary guys will make a good impact

Everyone worried about the O and D, my questions will be, how is our Special teams looking this year?

People forget how much it benefited is them last few years when cats was getting us mid field or closer during the last few years vs early in the A. Smith era dude averaged starting drives in OUR redzone.

ellington is a defacto upgrade over lmj as a kick returner
coverage-wise, we are solid imo
kicking in the new stadium could be an adventure to start the year

I think the secondary coverage wise will be better, I read a stat that qbs had a rating over 100 throwing at Rogers in the nickel.

Lb wise the defense is taking a step back and I'm not sure lemonier can bring the heat on passing downs. I think on obvious pass downs j smith moves to de and tank lines up at dt next to him.

If Ian can just hold the point at nt I think the run d should be fine but you never know coming off that type of injury
