Let's be honest

People love to say, "Oh if Pac was alive rapper X Y Z would not be here etc..."

But let's take an honest look at what Tupac/Hip Hop would be like if he either survived the shooting or if it never happened.

1. If he somehow survived
Doctors removed his entire lung. He would not be rapping anymore. He would be the poster child of the "See how far rap can go" narrative. He would probably become an activist against violence or something. Rap money would be gone, Suge would be robbing what was left so he would need the activist/interview money. He'd probably write books, but music would be out of the question. There is a chance he would be in a semi vegetative state and probably die a few years later for medical reasons.

2. If he didn't sustain major injury from the shooting or if it never happened
If he made a full recovery to be honest he would not see much success after 'All Eyez On Me'. He would have an insane rise due to another shooting, but that would taper off quickly. Later in the 90s and early 00s the thug image was dying. Rap was becoming more commercial and rappers had to start really portraying images other than a thug. We all know Pac wasn't the type to change for anything/anyone so he wouldn't really fit well. Remember he was changing his stage name to Makaveli. I can't think of any major artist that changed their name mid-career and it worked.

He would have moderate success with movies. Low budget movies would pretty much be it. A lot of big name movies/tv shows would not want to be associated with an ex-con rapper who keeps getting shot at. Not a good insurance pitch. Look at guys like LL, Cube and Ludacris. All rappers, but for the most part had pretty clean careers. Keep in mind he died at 25. He would still be making mistakes and being in and out of legal trouble. Could potentially land back in prison.

Overall by now he would probably be similar, maybe even less, than what Nas is today in terms of relevancy. Stop lying to yourself in thinking his death isn't what fueled his legend. He was great, but it would not be like this.

That only happened because Big & Pac died.

The game went into a depression.Puff ruled the airways with his generic, happy rap music.

Watering the game down in the process.DMX and Jay benefited the most, but neither one could really dominate

the game.

I mean, a dude like Ja Rule was able to be a major act during that time period.

The game been watered down since '97.Jay is the best of the watered down era

really tho

Prince changed his name half way through his career and his fame didn't take a hit.

2pac & biggie would've both fell to the 2nd tier, just like the rest of em.

people forget how different rap was back then.

it wasn't like now where its the same set of artists regurgitating the same bland music over & over for 10-15 years and getting propped up for it.

theres plenty of rap fans that didn't give a dam about 2pac.

and for the record, I think 2pac is arguably the goat.

but when he died, it was just like "that's a shame" but it didn't stop anybody's flow one bit. way too much going on. rap never revolved around one or two guys. especially back then.

all this other stuff is just a product of 2 decades worth of non-stop media conditioning.

pac wouldve prolly started falling off on his next album, while the new crop of rappers were coming in, making him look flabby. especially when DMX came out.

Look at scarface , look at Nas

They're legends but not over blown like PAC
Pac would've been one of them

I remember guys on forums use to say PAC was gonna run for governor and shyt if he lived:russ:

2pac is top3 tho
Tupac was bigger than both those artists have ever been. Imagine Drake's popularity but with someone that isn't viewed as "soft". But authentic, and revolutionary. There really isn't much of a modern day equivalent

Also after he got shot the first time he kind of changed for the worse. He became a little more reckless. After getting shot and surviving a 2nd time? Oh he would think he is an untouchable God and would definitely do something to get him back in prison or probably eventually killed.

Im a huge Pac fan but personally man I think if Pac didnt die, his career would have fell off with him missing a lung and his finger. He would still be a legend tho. If he didnt get shot, he would have most definitely went full time into acting and became a huge movie star. Biggie in my honest opinion would have been even bigger in the early 2000s in the flashy throwback jerseys era. His style and swagger fitted that shyt. Its a damn shame how we lost 2 great talent over bullshyt.

Back then ESPECIALLY rap revolved around those 2 artist. In fact that was all you heard about from 95-97. Big and Pac, Pac and Big, Suge and Puff, Dre and Snoop. Hiphop was engulfed in that beef like no other era in hiphop.

Your also speaking from an aspect of certain artist's exposure being inevitable despite the existence or nonexistence of Pac and Big. If Pac had not died there would be no DMX. X was a force, but he was only embraced because the departure of Big opened up the door for Puff and Jay to usher that Jiggy era bullshyt. The shiny suit thug. And then there was X and the smashed that fake facade bullshyt. X got on because his truths were so far from that hollyweird lane that hiphop was going in. He was dark, gritty, truthful, and unashamed of his flaws.......much like Pac. But if Pac would not have died and Big was still alive there would not have been a lane for X, Jay, Nas, and all the rappers that were influenced by those artist in the late 90's early 00's.

Pac's death was definitely a ripple in the pond that created a butterfly effect on hiphop......to say his death didn't matter is a major ignorant response.
