Poverty and ignorance are why NFLPA stay getting shortchanged. A lot of the players have awful spending habits (ignorance) and taking care of families (ignorance and poverty) so they feel they can't miss a week's pay. Like someone on this site mentioned, they can get replacements and we'll still watch. We're fans of teams over individual players. Falcons will still sell tickets if Julio Jones doesn't play. Top players miss games due to injury and we still watch. The fans would have to make the difference, unfortunately. Fans are going to deny themselves football so the players can get paid more.
The players are seriously at the mercy of the owners doing the right thing.
