Yes there have always been party songs BUT when an artists was wack, no matter how many party songs he made, he got the now though? dudes are put on pedestals

Give me examples. No one is out here saying Shmurda is the best in the game. Even with BET, look at who the fans vote for as lyricist of the year every year: Cole, Wale, Drake, K. Dot out the new school. The problem is that hip hop is now more turn up focused than ever before, but no one is acting like D4L was saying some shyt. There is an imbalance, but there is not a shift in who is considered at the top (except the actual skill level is a step down). "Crank That" is no different than other dance shyt in the past, it is just that when it happened there was not enough other shyt to cancel it out. It was part of the era (that we are still in) of a new dance or turn up song running radio every year. Bubba Sparks had Ms. New Booty and no one complained about him. He was never painted as the face and was not winning best rap awards.

FYI, I have no problem with Macklemore. I am no fan, but I do not despise him.

Fair enough, but I also contend that the actual spitters today are boring compared to their predecessors. And honestly, it is what the peopled wanted. NY used to resist a lot of that Southern snap dance shyt, but it is what the people wanted to hear at parties. I do not know when the shift happened exactly.

I don't think they're boring as much as they know the way the game is played and they're not allowed to have their own voice now or really be honest artistically because everyone wants the same ole shyt. NY should've kept its identity and saw what happened at least that way there'd be some distinction between regions

Nah, a lot of those mixtapes dudes cannot make actual albums. They can give you a hot 16, but cannot write songs. Jim Jones could not rap at all, but he could make We Fly High and Reppin Time. Jae Millz can rap but cannot write a song to save his life. But straight bars could be their wave in and of itself.

I see no reason why an NY dude with better bars could not play the Meek MIll role in the game.

No artist development anymore breh. All the dudes from years ago had someone mentor them and show them the ropes and help them hone what they did on the streets into something viable and complete.

a black rapper has the right to be wack and make money in a genre of music that was created by blacks imo. The only difference is they'll just make some party songs that we can dance to and thats the end of it really. Macklemore was made to play the "white saviour" role in hip hop, the white dude who swoops in and schools these ig'nant negros about misogyny, homophobia and even racism (a white man schooling black ppl on racism, go-figure). It backfired when they tried to take that mantra and not only use it to condescend to the hip hop community but award him for it over other far more superior and well-liked rap acts.
