Like I said before, give me your EXACT birth time (& date) and I can guarantee you we can come up with a map of your life. Until then you'll always be skeptical as you're looking at just basic sun sign interpretations to give you an outlook on your whole personality which will never be the case.
I'm not personally at the point where I can do readings but I understand enough about my own natal chart (Though I won't post my chart here....[with what you can do with a natal chart it's borderline an invasion of privacy]) to see how it accurately matches my life in a manner that's just scary. Most of this I learned just from getting a few readings from astrologers who didn't know me or anything about me from a can of paint & then looking at my chart myself and learning.
Although a computerized reading doesn't tell the whole story, it basically gives aspects I'd still recommend getting one done for free at one of these online sites (i.e.: astro.com) just so some of you can become less ignorant and more aware. A real reading by a real astrologer is based on feel. It is a science because it takes years of experience to learn how to really read these things. There are things within the meaning of the planets & signs which may conflict so you're breaking the whole chart down into little pieces and basically putting a puzzle together of someone's whole personality and temperament.
In terms of getting the basics down for a good understanding of personality you want to look at the Sun sign, Moon and Ascendant......You'd also look to see where most of the planets on your natal chart are positioned to see whether you're in introvert, extrovert or neither (a little of both)
Then you can move on to aspects (planets in conjunct, trines, squares, etc) , stelliums (having more than one planet in each house [tends to mean you focus quite a lot on that area]), out of bounds planets.
