I hear Bill Maher talking about supporting the plan to retrofit all planes with the missile defense systems since its a drop in the bucket to what we'd pay if we lost one of them afterwards.

realistically speaking, that will be very hard to do. Every airline in the world would have to do that and it would cost them money taking aircraft out of service to fit em with the technology plus the cost of installing the systems.
