I cant remember what the guy said to her, but response something like a quick "No." And she walked away and ignored everything else.

I said next time... just smile. Tell him "thank you, but I have boyfriend" (which she did at the time). And if he kept talking... just say "I'm really sorry, but someone is waiting on me and I have to go, but have a nice day" or something like that.

The point is to be friendly with people, especially when you don't know them or are uncomfortable. It's harder for people to flip out on you when you're nothing but nice. Normally there is something that triggers these unstable people to violence... and it's generally not kindness. And of they stil flip... hell, live is unfair that way some times. But at least you did your part.
