His name is a reference to the song "Sunshine Superman" by 60 Birtish pop star Donovan.

Kalel and his wife Kara (Earth-D's Supergirl) left Krypton as adults. Both of them were killed during the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

He became Superman in addition to being the president.
He operates from the White House, where Brainiac serves as his personal computer and even covers for him while he does his duties as Superman.
