Ive come to this realization recently. Everytime i see these rappers walking around in excessive jewelry i cant help but to wonder how little self esteem that person has to where they have to hide behind shiny jewelry.

Alot of these rappers come from environments where they are told that theyll never amount to shyt. Alot of these rappers come from hopeless environments where they grow to hate their own skin color and people who share their skin color. This is why white and lightskin women are common themes in rap videos.

Alot of these rappers grew up having extremely low self-esteem due to having no education/ work experience and or having to RESORT to drug dealing, being locked up and other low level activities.

Jewelry to alot of these rappers is their signal to society that they've "made it". It covers up their low self-esteem that theyve dealt with for their entire life and that they are no longer apart of the lower rungs of society.

But to me its like putting lipstick and a dress on a pig because of the ignorance of their music. Despite the flashy jewelry, the ignorant mentality is still their alot of the time. No amount of jewelry can mask an ignorant, low-level mentality.

Peace.

Because of royalty.

Nikkas today rock it because they think they are nothing without it.

I don't get the appeal of wearing jewelry, doesn't make you any smarter, taller, faster, stronger.... Materialism....

Its corny...unless you MR.T or on run yo whole city on a street level on some don shyt

You gotta have something about you behind it where you can wear chains heavy and people respect it
Eric.B & Rakim pulled it off cause the paid in full posse was serious
If them chains the only thing that makes you..yeah it is a self-esteem problem and you most likely gonna get fukked up trying to feel good about yaself
You know how many of these old school emcees got robbed for they shyt? :lolbron:repeatedly :mjlol:
Slick Rick got a classic rapping about that:russ:

many reasons why people rock jewelry , can be seen as a milestone item too, which is one of the reasons why some rappers buy them , "i made it now" type of thing, you should see dmx's reasons for rocking chains, he's reason is different

Materialism has some over doing it for sure

Everything that's out here for kings like us. The reason why we like this—this jewelry and this diamonds and stuff—they don't understand, it's because we really from Africa. And that's where all this stuff come from. And we originated from kings, you know what I'm saying? So don't look down on the youngsters because they wanna have shiny things. It's in our genes, know what I'm saying? We just don't all know our history, so…"

some people over do it but Pimp said some shyt in regard to jewelry if you're smart with your purchase it will hold its value like a rolex or other type of watches the problem is when they flood it with diamonds and make it gaudy

I disagree. It's fun to wear jewels. Sometimes they're heavy though. Gotta have balls to rock them and can't be a bytch. Let brehs/ettes enjoy they're life it's in our DNA.
