I remember when my mom had me read Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry and Let the Circle Be Unbroken when I was a little kid and I was always struck by what happened to the character T.J.
Like I didn't know much about how the world worked yet but even as a ten year old I could tell how messed up his fate was. I can't imagine how grown folks can turn a blind eye and justify things like this but that's white people for ya.
Those books by Mildred Taylor should be required reading for all young brothers and sisters.
